“Our memories build a special bridge and bring us peace of mind.”
Charlie sadly passed away on 19th April, aged 92 years.
Devoted husband of the late Kath, cherished father of Karen, Kim, Ian, Patricia, Neil and Tracy and loving grandad of Victoria Lee, Gemma, Sam, Rebecca, Jack and Coral. Also a loving brother of Alb, Mary, John, the late Pat and the late Harry and brother-in-law of Frank.
Charlie was born on Thursday 21st October 1926 in Everton, Liverpool to proud parents Martha and Christopher. He went to Salisbury Street School and after finishing his education he started work in a jewellers in Scotty Road, Liverpool, eventually opening his own shop called “Classic Touch” in St. Helens.
His hobbies included visiting and collecting antiques to try and pick up a bargain, he regularly did the football pools and every saturday went to Bet Fred in town to put a bet on the horses.
He had a really fun-loving nature, he would do anything to make people laugh, including dressing up as “the elf on the shelf”.
Charlie lived in Knowsley and got on really well with his neighbours, they had a holiday club he would go on coach holidays with Frank and Mary and Albert and Vera.
When at home he liked to watch quiz shows and comedy, especially Laurel and Hardy. He also liked to listen to big band music.
He used to go on bike rides with Tracy, her an a push bike, him on his mobility scooter! And they never stuck to the same route, he enjoyed going “off road” through the woods, taking the opportunity to race with the children.
In 2017 he went to Tenerife with all the family for Karen’s birthday and even though the girls had planned a second week just for them, he insisted he was staying to share and create even more fun. You could always hear him asking everyone, “What’s on the agenda then?”
Although his health had deteriated he still went to Llandudno just over two weeks before his passing.
Charlie’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 7th May. A short service will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Wistaston at 2.15pm, followed by a full service at the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 2.40pm.
