“Our memories build a special bridge and bring us peace of mind”

Peacefully in the care of Brookfield House, Nantwich, Chris passed away on 21st March, aged 93 years. The beloved wife of the late Jeff, much loved family member of both those in France and England. Christiane will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Christiane was born in St Leger en Yvelines, near to Paris as one of seven children. They had a large family.

Most of her youth was spent in Alger where her father was based as he worked for a sub division of the gendarmerie.

Christiane was brilliant at school, helping her siblings with their own homework and signing detention slips for them so they wouldn’t get into trouble.

She obtained the Brevet Superieur (equivalent to an A level) going onto  work for the Institut Pasteur in Alger as a laboratory assistant.

Christiane met her future husband Jeff during the second World War and married in Alger in 1944 whilst Jeff was still stationed there with the British Army.

Jeff managed to secure a safe passage to England for Chris where she would be safe, remaining here for the rest of her life whilst making regular trips home to visit the family and friends.

She worked at Crewe Town Hall and also as an interpreter when Crewe twinned with Macon.

She continued to study and passed her exams with success, becoming a French teacher at  Crewe Girls Grammar School.

Her husband Jeff died in 1980 and she briefly moved to France but returned soon after, realising that her life was now in England.

Even in later life she continued to learn and would follow computer and literature courses as she had a love of learning and also a desire to share with others her own French language.

She has been a resident of Brookfield House in Nantwich where she has been looked after with love and support by all the staff.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday 12th April at 10.40am in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe and donations in her memory will be for Ligue Contre Le Cancer and Alzheimers UK.
