Derek Roy Cooper

"Treasured memories keep you near."

Date passed: 11th of December 2019

Funeral date: 30th of December 2019

“Treasured memories keep you near.”

Derek sadly passed away on the 11th December in the care of St. Catherine’s Care Home in Nantwich aged 83 years, knowing he was loved and cared for.

The beloved husband of the late Olive, they were to marry in 1955. Devoted father of Sally (the apple of his eye), the cherished grandad of Steven and Daniel and great grandad of Oliver and Freddie. Also a loving brother of the late Gordon. Derek will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all his family and friends.

Born on Monday 15th June 1936 to proud parents Madge and Jack Cooper in Nantwich, Derek attended Nantwich Boys School. He would go on to do his National Service in the RAF. After returning he went on to work in Crewe Works. He also worked for Foden’s and Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council before finally retiring in 2001, aged 65 years.

He loved football, his favourite teams were Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra. He was quite a good player himself, he played semi-pro football for a while. He also enjoyed his motorsports, particularly Formula One and Superbikes. Plus the more “quieter” past times such as golf, fishing and swimming.

During his younger days he had a quick temper but over the years he mellowed, he was a kind hearted, quick witted and very generous person.

Derek’s funeral will take place on Monday 30th December in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 10.45am, followed by cremation.
