Frank Edward Jones

"Memories are something no one can steal."

Date passed: 25th of March 2019

Funeral date: 8th of April 2019

“Memories are something no-one can steal.”

Frank passed away peacefully in the care of Telford Court Care Home on 25th March, aged 84 years.

The beloved husband of Dorothy. Much loved dad of Michael, Martin and Mandy. Also a dear gramps and great grandad. Frank will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all his family and everyone who knew him.

Frank was born on Sunday 18th November 1934 in Walthall Street, Crewe. He passed his Eleven plus and went to Nantwich Grammar in 1945. He was a popular student with all the teachers and his fellow pupils. After school he worked at the Signal and Telegraph before joining the North Staffordshire Regiment, later spending six years in the Army Reserve. While working for the railways he also spent time in the booking office and as Preston Retail Passenger Manager.

By 1993, Frank had retired from his long and distinguished service to the public. This gave him time with Dorothy to travel to and from Orlando and to China and most places inbetween, he certainly enjoyed his retirement.

He was a member of the Masons and PROBUS.

Frank was an exceptional public speaker, which held him in good stead when he helped to fight a hard campaign to keep Crewe War Memorial in it’s original place. You would always be able to spot Frank in his trademark bowler hat, the sign of this true gentleman.

His family talk of a kind man who loved life, his family and the community that he served in so many different ways.

Frank’s family would like to thank all family, neighbours and friends for all their sympathy and support at this time. Also thanks to Telford Court Care Home for all their care and support given to Frank.

His funeral will take place on Monday 8th April in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 12.40pm, followed by cremation.

Donations in Frank’s memory will be gratefully received on behalf of Telford Court Care Home.

Frank, or FEJ as he was universally known on the railway, was a true friend and a great member of my management team at British Rail, Preston. I kept in touch after our retirements and so enjoyed his wit and kindness. My wife Jacky Highton missed him as well and was always thankful to him for being kind to her as a female manager in a man’s world of the railway. We were both so pleased to have known him.

Frank worked in many locations during his long and distinguished years of service. Always smartly turned out wearing the bowler hat for which he is still remembered, his badge of office. Personally I also remember his time living near me in Hatherton. He was a real gent and a pleasure to be with!

Frank was a lovely friend and neighbour. Always time for a chat and a true gentleman who adored his family. We will always remember the way he came across and welcomed us to Scott Avenue many years ago, a smile on his face then and every day thereafter. You will never be forgotten Frank. A top man.
