Treasured memories keep you near

Date passed: 6th of December 2018

Funeral date: 20th of December 2018

“Treasured memories keep you near.”

Glyn sadly passed away at home on 6th December, aged 84 years.

A loving dad, grandad, great grandad and special friend to many, he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Glyn was born in the early 30’s in Conwy, North Wales. He was the eldest of four, younger brothers Peter, Billy and sister Gwyneth, all being born within a year or two of each other. The household was quite strict, mum ruled the roost and if she caught any of them or found out that they had been misbehaving, a rap on the knuckles wouldn’t go amiss! Good discipline and respect was always the order of the day.

After leaving school he did his National Service with the RAF, probably stationed in Hereford as a clerk, unfortunately he was eventually discharged because of his asthma. He got a job in Llandudno at Bradley’s, a mens outfitters, the right kind of job for a man who took great pride in his appearance. He was highly thought of within the company, eventually gaining a promotion. When the Crewe branch needed a relief manager, Glyn answered the call. It was while he was based in Crewe that he met his future wife, Ann, they married at St. Michael’s Church in 1958. Soon after they returned to Llandudno because of his work.

Their daughter, Yvonne was born a year later, followed by a son, Paul in 1961. The new family moved back to Crewe as the company offered Glyn the job of permanent manager, it made sense, he knew the branch well and it was where Ann’s family was. In 1963, Wayne was born, followed by Tracey in 1965, making the family complete.

Another addition to his life was his association with the Buffs, the RAOB.

Money was tight, but the family would always have an annual holiday to Butlins.

Unfortunately, the amount of time Glyn spent away from the home created problems with their marriage and Glyn and Ann eventually went their separate ways.

A friend called Doreen became much more than a friend and they eventually got married around the mid 70’s. They had a happy marriage, which lasted until the mid 90’s when Doreen sadly passed away. Another big loss to Glyn was the passing of his son, Paul, which was a devastating blow.

Part of Glyn’s recovery was travel, he visited Thailand, flew on Concorde and sailed on the QE11.

When he eventually finished his job in menswear he got a job at Leighton Hospital, working in the Pharmacy department, where he stayed until his retirement. He continued to enjoy his holidays, going off to far away places and it was on one of these trips that he met Beryl. Both in their 70’s, they hit it off immediately and remained close ever since, regularly holidaying and visiting each other.

In the summer of 2018 Glyn and the whole family went over to Greece for the wedding of his granddaughter. Of all the places he had been it was his first trip to Greece, being all the extra special because all the family were there.

Glyn’s funeral will take place on Thursday 20th December in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 12noon, followed by cremation.

Donations in Glyn’s memory will be gratefully received on behalf of the R.A.O.B.
