John Clark

"As long as we live, he too will live, for he is now a part of us, as we remember him."

Date passed: 10th of August 2019

Funeral date: 23rd of August 2019

“As long as we live, he too will live, for he is now a part of us, as we remember him.”

John sadly passed away on Saturday 10th August, at home, knowing he was loved, with his family by his side, aged just 58 years.

The beloved husband of Angie, loving dad of Joanne and Rob and devoted grandad of Kris, Ashley and Jayden, John will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all his family and many friends.

Born on Saturday 22nd October 1960 in Hull to loving parents Margaret and Len. He was the middle son of three, Pete being the eldest and Geoff completing the family. When he was five the family moved to Haslington, John said that this is where he must have got his love of nature and the countryside from as Haslington was still a small village then, surrounded by fields.

He attended Haslington Primary School and when he was 11 he qualified (to his surprise) for grammar school. The family moved back to Hull when John was 14 and at 16 he decided that he wanted to be a Royal Marine.

Travelling down to the commando centre in Devon for his training, he bumped into an old school friend he had not seen for a couple of years, Bob Falconer who was also joining up. Although Bob was to settle in Devon he and John were to remain close friends.

John and Bob went through their training and got their green berets together, serving two tours in Northern Ireland and serving in the Falkland War in 1982. John said it was truly an honour and a privilege to have served alongside such men.

He left the marines in August 1983, met his wife to be Angie and had to find himself another job. He began work at Royal Mail in Crewe later that year.

He and Angie were married on 1st November 1986 and went on to have two children, Joanne and Rob.

John went on to serve Royal Mail for 26 years, finally leaving in 2010 shortly after the mail centre in Crewe closed down and moved to Warrington. He then set up his own landcaping business, he was to say it was his ideal job as he was working outside with nature. Rob would regularly go out with John on some of the bigger jobs, creating an even stronger bond between father and son.

Unfortunately in October 2014 John was diagnosed with cancer and had to give up his business. Typically, he said that having to give up his business was harder to take than knowing he had cancer!

John bravely battled his illness for nearly five years, going through various treatments, but never complaining or feeling sorry for himself. He faced up to his illness with dignity and bravery, typical of a man who once served his country with pride and distinction.

John’s funeral will take place on Friday 23rd August in St. Michael’s Church, Crewe Green at 12.45pm.

Donations in memory of John will be gratefully received on behalf of St. Luke’s Hospice.

Although we only had a brief friendship at school and a couple of meets in Wistaston Manor when he came north with Rob, I know what a good guy he was. I’m sure he was proud of his family and my thoughts are with you. There’s always a military bond. We will have a beer in Valhalla I’m sure

A gentle giant of a man. John would always greet me with a smile and a handshake. I shall miss our chats where time would fly by. John was knowledgable and funny and great company. He was the same in and out of work and he had a fantastic work ethic. Even though John was very ill after visiting I would always feel better because speaking to John would have that effect on you. I shall miss him. Condolences to Angie and the family.
