Andrew strong, AKA, Andrew to his family, Andy and Strongie to his friends and
colleagues the very best of the Mr Men Characters, Mr Strong, he was a legend who
was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and has left a huge
void, there are no words adequate to describe how special he was and how much he
will be missed but he gifted fabulous memories.
Andrew, was and always will be, Lynne’s amusing and beloved husband, a devoted
dad to Leanne, Nathan, Aidan and Jamie, and his treasured hairy rather large baby
with four legs and a tail, Archie! He was a loving Grandy Andy to Demi, Lily,
Freddie, Jaime, Charlie and Frankie, a cherished younger brother to Sandra,
Barbara, Alan, Kim and Linda and a much-loved son in law to Janet and brother-in-
law, uncle and friend to many.
Remembering Andrew
As Andrew always said: he was born to Marjorie and Ernest Strong during a harsh
winter on 13th February 1963 in the front room at 39 Wood Street, at 7.55pm just as Z
Cars was coming on the TV. It had been a difficult birth so he was a deep shade of
blue and as the lovely midwife brought him through to the other room.
The baby of the family, Andrew was adorable, lovable but extremely annoying and
being the only two boys, Alan had to share his bedroom with his mischievous little
brother! Andrew used to meddle and mess with everything, and Alan remembers he
got a chemistry set but was never able to do any experiments because Andrew had
got to it first and mixed up all the chemicals!
Andrew initially went to Bedford Street School but after his dad died, the family
moved to Staffordshire to be nearer to his mum’s relatives in Stoke on Trent, so
Andrew had to move schools. He never really liked school and regularly bunked off,
into all sorts of mischief and Auntie Ann’s best friend had to bribe him with a
cigarette to sit one of his exams!
Around 1977, his mum met and married Trevor, thankfully he and Andrew got on
well together, it seems Trevor buying him a chopper bike may have helped! Andrew
was the only one in the street to own one and he thought he was the proper bee’s
knees!
Trevor was an engineer and travelled round the country a lot so he bought a small
touring caravan. Well before rules and regulations altered, Andrew was travelling in
the caravan with his mate, having a crafty fag! whilst they were going somewhere
and when Trevor pulled into a petrol station someone said “hey mate, do you realise
your caravan isn’t hitched properly? Doesn’t bear thinking about!!
Barbara remembers the time she took her brother on his very first holiday abroad
with her daughter Claire, and their sister Linda. Just before leaving for Spain,
Andrew was having one of his crafty fags in his bedroom but when he thought he
heard the front door – MUM alert! So, he threw his ciggy in the bin! The curtains set
on fire, the fire brigade was called, sirens blaring and as it passed mum walking
home from work, she apparently thought “aww I feel sorry for those poor people with

the house on fire!” And as she turned the corner of their street!!!! Well!!! And they all
scarpered off to Spain on their hols!
With no career path in mind, just a speedy exit from school. Andrew left as soon as
he was able and had various short-term jobs including the typical destination for
many youngsters from Stoke on Trent, the pot banks and Tiko’s bakery. He then
settled into doing block paving for several years. After a few years foot loose and
fancy free, Andrew became the proud dad of Leanne, closely followed by Nathan
and he loved them both to bits.
Andrew eventually moved back to Crewe, initially living with Kim and around 1999,
he became an overhead lines man on the railway working for several contractors,
and including ETI, working on contracts all over the UK including London, Scotland,
Swindon, well, the length and breadth of the country really, latterly working with
Morgan Sindall and the last couple of years due to ill health, Andrew transferred into
the stores.
Whilst living with Kim, Andrew met the love of his life Lynne. They started the
millennium by getting married on 15 th February and moved to their forever home in
Somerville Street over twenty years ago.
Thinking back to his first escape to Spain! It was the start of Andrews passion for
holidays, especially the more exotic locations with sun, sand, more sun, plenty to
drink and lots more sun! and Lynne told me how they have travelled all over the
world but the last four were spent with family and friends to Cyprus, France, Cyprus
again then Bali with Bessie mate Steve.
Of course, arguably his biggest passion was Chelsea, followed them at home and
abroad. Andrew was such a popular man and much loved.

May he rest in peace.
