*************************************************************************************************************************************

A funny, selfless, generous lady with an ever-open door and a warm welcome.
Renowned for her cooking and ability to feed a family with a few onions, potatoes
and a dozen eggs. Her passion for cooking and feeding anyone who entered her
house was legendary.
Angela would leave the back door open when she was cooking and the neighbours
would shout “what you cooking Angela?”… she would reply “Food…Come round
later and you can have some”.
You could visit Angela but couldn’t come away without being fed, whether it was
Spanish Omelette, Russian Salad, Meatballs, Pasta and her world-famous Paella,
she just loved to cook, and she would be offended if you didn’t have something she
had made. She liked to be liked and she certainly was! By all who had the pleasure
of knowing her.
She is and always will be a much loved, mum to Alberto and Sergio, a treasured
mother-in-law to Michelle and Val with incredible foresight. Almost 50 years ago she
told Michelle who was just eight at the time, “When you are older, you can marry my
Alberto!”
With her prediction coming true and Sergio marrying Val, Angela was blessed with
four grandchildren: Andrew, Katie, Jamie & Hannah, and later twelve great
grandchildren Eden, Harry, Isabella, Blake, JJ, Olly, Henry, Luis, Archie, Leo, Thea &
little Poppy who she was determined to meet but sadly it didn’t happen but all her
other grandchildren and great grandchildren have fond memories of visiting Nan or
YaYa as they affectionately call her, she just loved everyone dropping in and they
certainly didn’t need any coaxing, she was their very own hero, they all remember
the magic goodie cupboard stuffed full of treats – but the treats came at a cost as
she would pinch their cheeks and say UN BESITO (Spanish for a kiss) whilst
insisting, no besito no treats!
Angela also made many good friends over the years, particularly Sandra; they
remained close after working together at Gorsty Hall and through their friendship,
Angela became fond of Lilian.
A very special period in Angela’s life started when Henry became the Restaurant
Manager at Gorsty Hall and Angela began working there as a waitress and home
was a bungalow in the grounds during the seventies and eighties. Angela continued
to live and work at Gresty Hall after she and Henry separated and he left but she
worked with people who she valued for the rest of her life and of course that’s where
she met Michelle’s nan Nora who sometimes used to take Michelle into work with
her.
After becoming a single parent, Angela worked tirelessly to provide for her family,
doing spilt shifts and was always incredibly thrifty.

Angela was a determined, strong-willed lady who then went on to buy her own house
in Maxwell Street with no help from anyone. This was the beginning of Nan’s
“Goody Cupboard” where the kids would always get a treat with or without their
parents’ permission!
She was always extremely organised and savvy with numbers! She knew her
monthly pension and budgeted well, knowing how much to save for the bills.
She used to go with Michelle in January and stock up on all the greetings cards for
the year, and never forgot forgot anyone’s birthday.
And she loved holidays with her grandkids – spending many happy times in Spain
with them over the years, she would delight in showing the Spanish Waiters her
Champagne Waterfall cascading down a tower of Champagne Glasses, six high.
After living in Maxwell Street for over twenty-five years, Angela settled in Shavington,
strategically placed in the centre of the family hub.
As time went by it was Michelle who provided her “adopted” Mother time and care on
a regular basis. She liked a set routine every Monday, going with Michelle to collect
her pension then for a hot chocolate in Costa and Angela always came away with a
pocket full of sugar sachets, even though she didn’t take sugar!
Michelle visited and cared for Angela on a daily basis to enable her to stay in her
own home but her lack of mobility and failing health required more specialised care
and she was taken into Greengables Care Home in Congleton where she was loved
by everyone there and got plenty of affection and attention. Even the staff called her
Yaya
Although settled, her time in the Care Home wasn’t without its drama! It was hard to
monitor her medication as she very often hid them under her teeth in defiance! She
had two trips to Macclesfield hospital and last April she was diagnosed with Sepsis
and put on end-of-life care. Those with her at the time agreed with the Doctors that
as long as she was comfortable then nature would take its course, Alberto and
Michelle and Sergio and Val took it in turns to sit by her bedside.
The following Monday, the family returned to see her sat up in bed eating a bowl of
Rice Krispies!!! She wasn’t going anywhere… it was maybe just a reminder that the
attention she wanted needed to be ramped up a notch!
Last summer with the restrictions relaxed in the home, the whole family enjoyed
visiting Angela in the garden, she loved the attention and there was plenty of it and it
just won’t seem the same again.

May she rest in peace.
