Christina Williams

"Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. Memories are treasures no one can steal."

Date passed: 4th of January 2020

Funeral date: 20th of January 2020

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. Memories are treasures no one can steal.”

Christina, also known as Chris or Chrissie, sadly passed away on Saturday 4th January in the care of Leighton Hospital aged 96 years. She was surrounded by family in her final days, being reminded of happy memories and how much she was loved.

Chris was a loving mother to Eddie, Walter, Lynn, Roy, Keith and Dawn. She was also a devoted Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma, sharing her love and wisdom with the four generations that followed her.

Born on 15th November 1923 in Coatbridge Lanarkshire, Chris was always part of a large family. Raised by her grandparents and aunts, she had a happy childhood before moving to Crewe at the start of World War Two. Aged only 17, she worked at Rolls Royce during the war effort making fork rods for planes. It was during this time she met Walter at a dance at Crewe Town Hall. Chris and Walter were married and had five children during their 17 years together. Sadly, Walter passed away at 39 years in 1961.

Her life now drastically changed, Chris worked hard to support her family and often had two jobs to make ends meet. She was steadfast and determined, which continued to be evident for the rest of her life.

Finding love again some years later, Chris met Don Bonsall and had daughter Dawn. They had many happy times together, however sadness struck once more when Don passed away having suffered a heart attack.

Chris treasured her role as a mother, and her children were her pride and joy. She (and indeed the whole family) suffered a deep loss when, tragically in 2008 she lost her beloved daughter Lynn, aged only 52.

Although always carrying this sadness, Chris was still able to find joy and laughter through family and close friendships in her later years. She was an inspiration to those she met, who would often comment on her cheeky sense of humour, her strength and how generally amazing she was.

Chris was the life and soul of the party. There was nothing she liked better than having a laugh and a sing song with the people she loved, often over a glass of port! She was passionate, hard working and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Chris’ funeral will take place on Monday 20th January at Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 10am.
