Christine Roberts
“Always loved, never forgotten and forever missed.” Peacefully at Leighton Hospital. Knowing she was loved by her devoted family. Chris aged, 73 years. Loving wife of David, cherished Mum, Nan and Great Nan. Chris will be sadly missed and remembered with affection by all her family and friends.
David and Chris were totally devoted, the best of friends since their courting days
and after exchanging their lasting vows in November 1967, they were blessed with
almost fifty-five years of true happiness. A doting mum to Julie and Stu, Chris was
very fond of her daughter in law Sue and a much-loved nan to Vicky, Hayden and
Adam, amazing nanny to Liam and she adored her great grandchildren Chloe, Ella,
Tommy, Harry and Mia.
Chris was one of five children, her eldest sister Pat, twin Valerie, Denise and the late
Baron, a sister-in-law to both Peter’s she was also a sister-in-law to David’s side of
the family Alan, Margaret, his twin Colin and Colin’s wife Susan and was an auntie to
many.
Chris began life in London, on 21 st February 1949 and at some stage she moved to
Biddulph where she attended the Bateman’s schools then to Lime Tree Avenue in
Crewe. Around the age of seventeen, she lived with her sister Val and Pete on the
Marshfield Estate and worked at Heap’s clothing factory.
She and David met at the Civic Hall at the regular Saturday night dance and married
when she had turned eighteen, initially moving in with David’s brother Alan and his
wife Diane although after a short while, David and Chris took over the tenancy.
Julie was welcomed into the world whilst they were living in Ridgeway Street then
after moving to a new property on Greenacres Estate, Stewart arrived in 1972. Five
years later they found their forever home in Falmouth Road.
Chris loved being a dedicated mum and housewife, but eventually went part time at
Leighton as a cleaner progressing to the role of supervisor. As the children got
older, she successfully applied for a full-time job as Site Services Supervisor at the
Welcome Foundation based at Crewe Hall and loved it. Her last job was working
part time in the local post office where she enjoyed the interaction with the
customers.
Chris was always a homebird and extremely houseproud. Although the family
enjoyed their holidays, they weren’t the priority and generally alternated with jobs
around the house. With the benefit of rail passes, they went by train to places like
Cornwall and Falmouth on the South Coast and when Stewart was in his teens, they
ventured abroad. One of her greatest past times was relaxing on a picnic blanket on
a lovely fine day watching David play cricket at Holmes Chapel. She was normally
involved with the teas, and she loved to keep the scores.
She was a brilliant mum, nan and great nan, much loved and missed.
Her funeral will take place on Tuesday 18th October 2022 at Crewe Crematorium Chapel at 12:15pm.
Family Flowers only please. Donations in memory of Chris gratefully received for Diabetes UK.
