Christine Winwood ‘Chris’
“What thought the radiance once so bright be now forever taken from our sight.”
Peacefully in the care of her family Chris passed away on the 19th of November aged 70 years
Born on 13th December 1939 to parents Ada & Joseph Marsh, Chris was one of 15 children, 9 sisters and 5 brothers some of who have sadly passed away.
They all lived in Crewe and Chris attended West Street Infants and Junior School then she moved onto Crewe Grammar School for Girls.
Chris met her husband David through playing Table Tennis at a local Youth Club. Engaged for two years they married on 6th September 1969. They lived in Earle Street then Remer Street in 1972 where they had daughters Heather in 1973 then Lyndsay in 1977.
She started working for Midland Bank from 1966 to when she retired in January 2017 having had a 10 year break to raise her two daughters. For the majority of that time she was based at Crewe then at Nantwich for the last 10 years of her time there. She worked with many people during her career and many became lifelong friends. Chris loved her job and was very fondly thought of and well respected by colleagues, managers and customers and many came in just on the days she worked just to be served by her, even traveling to Nantwich when she moved there.
In her own time, Chris loved watching sport but more importantly, playing. Having a competitive nature she was a great all-round sports woman. She and husband Dave played badminton with friends Eileen and Ray. Also a devoted netball player for many years some members of her team, Janice and Julie became extremely good friends. In her later years she started to play Bowls and yet again she met lovely people and made new friends.
Chris enjoyed holidays with her family to Butlins, Scarborough, Skegness, Llandudno and Pwllhelli. She also holidayed with her own mum and sisters Marion, Josie and Pat.
In November 2005 she travelled to Kenya to watch Heather and Lyndsay marry their husbands Simon and Kevin. They all returned there in 2010 but this time with another family member,-grandson Alex who was born in 2007 who she loved spending time with.
Reading, quizzes, sport and TV were Chris’s many hobbies but she particularly loved time spent with her family.
They will remember her as happy go lucky, caring, kind, serious, brave, fun loving who was also generous, creative, single minded, hard working, dedicated & thoughtful.
She will be so sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Chris’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 1st December at Crewe Crematorium.
Sincere condolences to all family and friends of Chris. I remember the years that we played netball together for Shavington team.
