Colin Corn

“You can shed tears that he has gone or you can smile because he has lived.”

Colin possessed a highly developed intellect and of the view
that one of the best things about life is that we never have to
stop learning. A high achiever at school, Colin was accepted
by London University but for reasons known only unto
himself, he declined the offer, preferring to stay in the
sanctuary of the family home where he lived for most of his
life with his beloved mum, until she sadly passed away

Colin was inspired by knowledge and had a passion for music
and books, he owned a massive book collection on a vast
array of topics, was articulate and incredibly academic, and
well versed on literature, music and the arts.
Colin was brought into the world by his parents Ada and
William Corn on 30th December 1931.

Born in Stoke on Trent he was the only boy with three sisters, June Joyce and
Susan. He never married but was a loving uncle who enjoyed spending time with his nephew playing snooker and
darts.
Joyce remembers she and Colin were often together up to all sorts.
From an early age, Colin loved to read and enjoyed an
eclectic taste in music, listening to Jazz and Classical Music,
one of his favourite composers was Chopin He had a wide
range of educational achievements and despite his incredible
intellect he enjoyed a number of jobs from milking cows, the
navy, an electrician and window cleaning.

Colin Corn was a loving, funny charming man. He could have
the whole room laughing in seconds. In his spare time, he
was known for taking items apart to see how they worked.
Over the years he has enjoyed a lot of different hobbies
including photography and riding his bike.

Colin was immensely independent and preferred to do
everything for himself until it became a struggle. Family then
took over the food shopping until his health deteriorated and
he needed daily intervention. After spending 6 weeks in hospital, Colin went to live at Turnpike Court which opened
up a whole new experience in life. Enjoying constant
company and the comforting presence of people around him,
Colin decided to make it his permanent home. The family
were overjoyed to see Colin embrace his last few months in
Turnpike Court, joining in the activities, parties and
celebrating Christmas and his last birthday with many staff
and other residents.

He will be sadly missed by all his family and staff at Turnpike
Court.

Colin passed away on 18th January 2021 at Leighton Hospital aged 89 years.

His funeral will take place on Thursday 28th January at Crewe Crematorium.
