David Bennion

Funeral date: 21st of July 2023

“You are no more than a thought away”

David passed away suddenly  at home on 20th June aged 69 years.  Much loved dad,  grandad and great grandad.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

David’s funeral will take place at Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Friday 21st July at 11.30am.

Donations in memory of David will be gratefully received for Cancer Research UK

David was Crewe born and bred. His parents were Doris and Hugh. He had brothers and one sister – a twin.
David was a people person. He was also a profitable client to the public houses of Crewe and latterly Nantwich.  Leeds United have lost a loyal fan.
In his working life David was a painter and decorator.
He leaves 5 children. From his first marriage Carole, Glenys and Maria. From his second marriage Melissa and David.
Then there are grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Like an inverted pyramid, this family consisting of his descendants will grow exponentially.
He also shared in the family lives of many of his friends.
David liked companionship – particularly pub-type companionship. It was probably the companionship which he found in the pub that meant as much to him as the ale. Companionship through a drink –yes – but also through pub games like snooker, darts and dominoes.
Pubs are so much more than places where you can get a drink. You are part of a social enterprise. You help build community. David understood that better  than many. We should all remember that we have opportunities to befriend, to support, to encourage – whether or not in a pub.
David’s philosophy was that life was there to be enjoyed, and he worked hard to make it happen like that. He has been able to live  life on his terms until earlier this year, which is a positive thing to be able to say. Now he has gone to be with his family and friends who have already made it to the other side.
Opening music for the service in the Crematorium was “In the arms of the angel” which brought the comforting hope that on the other side he was safe and cared for.
A big THANK YOU should be recorded to the carers who have been attending to David in recent months as his health has sadly deteriorated. A particular shout-out for Barbara who has been a special comfort to him.
People who knew David shared happiness with him. He now gives those left behind memories to share and celebrate and bring a smile, if not now then in the future.
