************************************************************************************************************************

Born on 1 st March 1957 to parents Terry and Elsie, he grew up alongside his
elder sister Jackie here in Crewe, and over the years shared many wonderful
friendships with colleagues and fellow pub goers alike! Dave worked hard
from his early career at Crewe Works, a spell as a mechanic and even owning
his own taxi at one point, to Lindy Forklifts where he was an engineer before
being promoted to Contracts manager, also fitting in being a Union Rep with
his friend Tony! Dave also understood the potential for combining work and
play, and his years working part time at The George allowed his love of
socialising to also put a few quid in his pocket – inspired!
Dave knew everyone at the George, and could always be relied upon for a
catch up and a good laugh, and it was in his local that he came across the love
of his life in Audrey  or Aud  Dave never called her Audrey! After meeting
during the August Bank Holiday 2005, the two hit it off right away, and a
whirlwind relationship began that perfectly demonstrates the phrase “when
you know, you know!”. 6 months later on 4 th February 2006 they made
their love official, and the newlyweds never looked back! Throughout their
amazing 16 years together, Dave and Aud of course had their moments, who
doesn’t(!), but incredibly, they never argued they accepted one another with
all their quirks, and Dave’s response when they disagreed about something
never got much past “Oh Aud!”.

Family meant a lot to Dave, and whether sharing a messy night at Crewe Golf
Club or just catching up  they meant the world to him. An extremely proud
dad to 3 daughters Michelle, Hannah, and Lisa. He absolutely adored his
girls, and they loved him right back.
Dave also took great delight in his role as step dad to Chris,
Matty and Vicki. After falling for Aud, he very much took them on as his own,
helping them out in any way he could again, as we will see from our tributes,
something which didn’t go unnoticed. As his 11 grandchildren arrived over the
years, Dave gained the nickname ‘grumpy grandad’, which had everyone
laughing  and those kids were the apples of his eye.

If there was something Dave loved ALMOST as much as his family  it was
holidays, and more specifically  the sun!! Dave was never happier than in
shorts and a tshirt, soaking up the rays, with a cold beer in his hand! From
early holidays to Turkey with the girls, to more recently falling in love with
Tenerife, Dave LOVED the sun, and having a tan!! After several trips to
Tenerife with Aud, the two even made the big decision to move there, opening
their own bar ‘Magnum’s’ and making many a wonderful friend along the way.

The covid pandemic threw a spanner in the works of many a best laid plan, and
when Aud mentioned feeling so far away (with travel restrictions etc) Dave
despite loving their life over there  responded “where you’ll go, I’ll go”. No
one could have known at that point that just a couple of months later all their

lives would change so dramatically, and Dave not wanting a fuss asked to
keep his diagnosis quiet where possible. Thanks to his family, and especially
Aud, Dave was able to spend the last year enjoying more overcooked food(!)
and a beer and a laugh with those he loved.

When he closed his eyes on the 25th September, we lost someone wonderful,
but if you ascribe to the philosophy that no one really dies until we stop talking
about them, one thing is for certain. Dave will be with us for a long, long time
yet!

Dave, you have walked among us mind, body, heart, and spirit. You have
brought strength, you have brought laughter, you have brought light.
We value everything you have been, and everything you have sought to be.
May you rest in Peace.

Remember to live on for Dave, and allow his legacy to live on in you. Tuck into
”a cheese and onion butty, on white bread, with a pint” – an order that was
known in Tenerife before he even opened his mouth! Enjoy a game of pool or
a night out at your local, take any opportunity to soak up the sun, and always
make time for a good laugh! Most importantly perhaps, treasure your family,
and your friends, and you’re absolutely sure to make him proud.
