‘You left us with a smile’

Peacefully in his sleep after a short spell in hospital, Des passed away on the morning of the 14th November aged 88 years.

The beloved husband of Jodie, much loved dad to Tracy, Samantha, Karen, Kristina and Adam.

Des started his life in show business when he was doing his national service and he was also a Redcoat.

He was a regular at Jollies Nightclub in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, where he sold out on every occasion he was there.

His show, The Des O’Connor Show, ran from 1963—1971. It marked a time when viewers by their millions tuned in to an entertaining Friday and Saturday night. The key ratings for both ITV and BBC. His show was followed by Does O’Connor tonight which ended after 26 years.

In 2008 he was awarded the Commander of the Order of British Empire (C.B.E.).

His wit and good humour will be sorely missed.

His funeral will be a private occasion for family only but in better times there will be a memorial to remember his life.
