"For nothing loved is ever lost- And she was loved so much".
Date passed: 23rd of November 2018
Funeral date: 7th of December 2018
“For nothing loved is ever lost- And she was loved so much”.
Peacefully in the care of Leighton Hospital with her family at her side aged 89 years, Irene the devoted wife of Dennis.
Irene lived her early life in Haslington before moving to Crewe. She was the eldest of four but lost her little sister at a very early age. Her other younger siblings were Barbara and Eric. The family were very close and Irene would always be looking out for Barbara and Eric.
She was quite studious at school, she loved history lessons but always made time for her friends. She loved playing netball and had quite a competitive edge.
On leaving school she started work in Woolworths as a sales assistant, a job she really enjoyed.
Like most people “back in the day” Irene frequented the local dance halls and it was at a dance in St. Michael’s church hall where she first met Dennis. Two years later they were to be married at St. Barnabas’ church in West Street. They honeymooned in London, then lived for a while with Dennis’ parents before buying their first home in Gresty Terrace before eventually moving into a house in Scott Avenue, which is where they remained for the rest of their lives.
They loved to travel all over the UK and abroad. North Wales, Devon, Southport and their favourite place, Llandudno. Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Majorca, Malta and Belgium, nowhere was off the map.
Irene also liked to be independent, especially when driving, she was not phased al all by long journeys.
In retirement, trips were still a highlight and she would always be reading a Mills and Boon book. She liked watching television, Death In Paradise was a particular favourite but she always looked forward to when Strictly Come Dancing came on. She often referred to herself as being the 5th judge and would point out all the mistakes the dancers made, and was usually right!
Unfortunately over the last few months Irene had a couple of falls and fell very ill, but like all through her life, she never complained. She had never been one to give in and let things overtake her, she made the best of every situation, good or bad.
Irene’s funeral will take place in Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Friday 7th December at 10.40am. Any donations in her memory are for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.
