******************************************************************************************************************************
Ted had lived a full and meaningful life and having reached almost eighty eight years
he was still relatively well but slowing up. As we share some of the memories Ted,
Val and Cheryl have of their dad, he certainly wouldn’t have wanted any fuss nor
would he have wanted us to cover all aspects of his life in detail.
Ted met and married his first wife and was blessed with his three children. They
enjoyed many family holidays in places like Port Madoc, Black Rock Sands and
Spain.
In his forties he found love and happiness with his second wife Kathie, blessed with
thirty-eight years of marriage until she sadly passed away in 2018. They both had a
passion for travel and warmer climates like Tenerife and loved visiting Cheryl in
Australia, basking in the sun whilst celebrating Christmas and New Year. They also
liked catching up with Kathie’s family in Bridlington.
The only boy in a family of five, Ted was cherished by his four sisters Sissy, Mary,
Rita and the youngest, Sadie who has survived them all
He was a brother-in-law, an uncle, good friend and was well known around Nantwich
particularly as he was normally in shorts regardless of the time of year.
Welcomed into the world by his parents Edward and Ann, he lived on Thomas Street
near to the Borough Arms in Crewe. He enjoyed a contented childhood, especially
being part of a happy family and pampered by his sisters!
He was a keen member of the sea cadets and at a young age liked physical
exercise. After leaving St Mary’s Catholic School he trained as a gas fitter at Crewe
works and remained there until he was made redundant in 1987. He then went to
Chester Barrie latterly known as Austin Reed as a general maintenance man until he
retired.
As a youngster he was always keen on sport, especially football and played for
Willaston White Star FC. He was an avid runner and entered many marathons.
Twenty years ago, he joined a gym in Crewe and in a concerted effort to keep fit,
went at least four times a week as well as his regular swimming sessions.
Ted always liked singing the iconic songs by his favourite crooner, Frank Sinatra
whilst singing Strangers In The Night, Kathie normally joined in with the chorus.
He also had a preference for coffee if it had a tot of Brandy in it and he did enjoy a
tipple or two – when he was advised to drink more water, his response was, “water?
that’s for the garden!”
May he rest in peace
I remember Ted with affection from my time in Crewe works. Condolences to the family x
