"A silent thought, a secret tear, keeps your memory ever dear"

Date passed: 1st of March 2021

Funeral date: 19th of March 2021

“A silent thought, a secret tear, keeps your memory ever dear”

Elaine sadly passed away on 1st March in the care of  I.C.U at Leighton Hospital, aged 65 years.

Elaine will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Elaine was a devoted wife to Mackie mum to Stuart and Nana  to Billy.

Also a much loved sister to Diane, Ian, Angela, Jacqui, Linda & Carol.

A service to celebrate Elaine’s life will take place at Crewe Cemetry Chapel on Friday 19th March at 10:45am  followed by burial at Crewe Cemetery.

Elaine’s ceremony was extremely well attended, the cortege went past Fayrefield where a large number of friends and colleagues gathered to pay their respects to someone they loved and respected.  Elaine never wanted more than she needed and valued all she had.  She always considered herself to be well off, enjoying the simpler pleasures in life.  Elaine was such a bubbly person, always ready to greet you with a beaming smile, she was extremely comical and full of fun with a gregarious sense of humour so it would be totally against her character to be anything other than positive.

She was immensely popular, no one disliked her or ever had a bad word to say about her.  Family meant the world to her, she was Mackie’s beloved wife, a devoted mum to Stuart and a cherished Nanna to her little sweetheart, Billy.  She used to go shopping and spend a fortune on him and he could always wrap her round his little finger, so could Stuart to some extent although when he was younger his mum often laid the law down, but Billy totally melted her heart, she couldn’t bear to say no.

Elaine was a loving sister, daughter and sister-in-law, everyone’s favourite Auntie, a much-loved friend, especially to Mucker Pat.

Elaine was a Crewe girl, born and bred.  She started life as a ‘townie’ then moved to Coppenhal

Elaine was born in the Cliffe Hospital Crewe on December 19th, 1955, the eldest child for Patrick and Glenys and it would be fair to say the easiest and happiest child.  Six siblings followed, Diane, Ian, Angie, Jacqui, Linda and Carol, and she was adored by them all, the Big but Little Sister.

Born at Christmas time, Elaine was always the family’s very own Christmas gift all year round, the star at the top of their tree, the sellotape that kept them together and the tinsel that shone and glittered on them all.

Elaine left school at the age of fifteen to start work in a laundry, then she found a job working at Beckett’s Bakery on Gresty Road where she settled for many years.

In her teens, Elaine enjoyed a game of darts and played regularly at her local pub, The Star.  This is where she met Mackie – one hundred and eighty!! Or the bullseye or was it more a case of hitting the wire!  She was twenty and he was just eighteen and when he was asked how he first met Elaine he said “I saw her bending down for her darts and thought – NICE!  And the rest is history as they say, a mutual bullseye!

Mackie and Elaine married on August 7th, 1976 and held their reception at the Horseshoe Hotel where they all enjoyed a night of celebration with Maurice the DJ playing Jungle Rock!

Their first few married years were spent living above the bakery where surprisingly the visitors were a plenty.  Not long after when they moved to Stoneley Avenue they decided to start a family.  On 5th August 1981, Stuart Mark McBarron was born.  A cheeky little chappie who kept them all on their toes that’s for sure! But the apple of Elaine’s eye.

A happy family life ensued and Elaine and Mackie shared many happy holidays, which Mackie would just go and book on a whim.  They went to Mexico with Melvyn and Linda, but little did they know that the resort they had booked into was a Hedonistic Resort where clothes were optional!

She had a great sense of fun, she had to have – she was married to Mackie, Boom Boom!  Mackie would often go to town and treat her to something!  Sometimes she liked the treats, sometimes not and subsequently returned, exchanged, or donated to someone.

One time he returned with a pair of UGG boots which she liked and wore about town for several weeks only to discover they were Primark slippers!  She once cheekily swapped his holiday undies in his case and replaced them with some of her underwear – that was a very different holiday for him!

Everyone knew not to mention ASDA price with Elaine because the very mention would make her grimace! A story for another time!

Elaine made the best Sunday dinners in Crewe and whilst making these famous dinners she would play her music loudly as she cooked and cleaned!

An incredibly hard worker, Elaine had several jobs and made plenty of friends.  She started at the laundry, followed by the bakery, the tea factory, packaging firms, builders, merchants and even potato picking with her best friend Mucker Pat, then finally the two of them worked at Fayrefield.

Elaine loved becoming a nanna to her beloved grandson Billy.  She simply adored him and loved nothing better than playing games with him like hide and seek, making dens and drumming the kitchen pots and pans very loudly.

She had such an easy-going nature and was so generous, it goes without saying that everyone loved her so, so much and wherever Elaine is, her laughter and smiles will be forever with everyone who knew her.  For sixty-five years they have had Elaine in their lives, they wanted more, she deserved more.  They will miss her every single day but she is forever in their hearts and minds.
