Elizabeth Anne – King Evans

“Deep in our heart’s you will always stay. Loved and remembered every day.” Anne passed away peacefully at home on 12th January, aged 83 years. Much loved Mum to Denise, Carl and Joanne. Cherished Nannie and Great Nannie to Danielle, Lauren, James, Ben, Lizzie, Teddy, Ava, Milo, Ezra and Indy and Dearest Sister to Barbara.

Anne was born in 1939, the youngest child of Walter and Margaret Davies, joining her siblings: Kath, Barbara, Tony and Betty at their home in Furnival Street. Her brother, Peter, had sadly passed on before Anne was born.
Anne was certainly always very close to her mum and Margaret spent her final months at Anne’s home in Winterley. Perhaps this was the foundation of her strong commitment to her family.

Her sister Barbara, who was able to attend the funeral, can clearly remember proudly holding up her new baby sister to show her friends through the lounge window. Perhaps this gave Anne a taste for attention, as she was never one to shy away from the limelight!

Growing up in the austere post-war days, Anne learned the
importance of injecting humour into daily life – all to the enormous benefit of
those around her. Music chosen for the funeral, together with the visual tribute slides, tell of her belief that life should be fun.

Anne was educated at Edleston Road School and as a bright girl went on to Crewe Girls Grammar School before entering the world of work. Her early work as a tracer would have required a good deal of skill and training.

Other employment included Bennetts Fruit and Veg, Blundells – a catalogue firm, rent collection for the council, Snap-on-Tools and Cook/Kitchen manager at Safeguard.

Married at 18, Anne began her own family life in Hope street, where her 3
children, Denise, Carl and Joanne, were born.  Anne was later blessed with four grandchildren and six great grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored. She was seen as a second mum by grandchildren Danielle and Lauren, having lived with them for most of their lives.

In the early days the family happily recall gatherings of the extended family and regular weekend trips to Hodnet, where they stayed in a converted railway carriage. There were also family holidays to Newquay, Cornwall, with friends and their children. Anne retained a love for Cornwall throughout her life and returned there for holidays with her children and grandchildren in later years.

As a sun worshipper, she later embraced opportunities to travel further
afield, happily combining these trips with reunions with old friends on a number of occasions – friends such as Coony and Alan in California and Sheila and Dave in Crete. She soaked up the sun on holidays with Jo in various European hot spots (but what happens abroad, stays abroad).

After the arrival of the grandchildren, Anne enjoyed holidays with Jo, Andy and family in France and a fabulous trip to Disney World in Florida.

As her children grew up, Anne enjoyed playing board games and card games with them. She loved crosswords, dominoes and trivia quizzes and. Although her interest in sport was more as a spectator, she would play the odd game of tennis, and took up crown green bowling for some time.  She particularly loved supporting Manchester United and enjoyed the playful rivalry and banter with those family members foolish enough to support
other teams.

She loved to have her dogs and cats with her. All activities were improved by a glass of red wine in hand.

We could see all of this as making for a very bright life. A life
lived with joy and love. A life that spread joy and love, and invited a positive
response from others.

Positivity is infectious and you can see that in Anne’s family, and hopefully in her future descendants. That positivity remained with her to the end helping her overcome the cancer diagnosed in 2019.

No passing is easy, but this passing was as lovely as it could be. Anne died
peacefully at home, her home being with Jo and Andy, as it has been for the last 25 years. All of her close family visited and chatted with her in her final few days. She was hoping to join her mum and dad and other family members in spirit, and that is the hope of all of us for her today.

Anne’s funeral will take place on Monday 23rd January at Crewe Crematorium at 10:45am.

Donations will be kindly received  in memory of Anne to Maggie’s Manchester Cancer Support Centre.
