Gillian Bennett

“Nothing on Earth will ever replace the sound of your voice or the smile on your Face”

Gill was born on 21st February 1957 at The Barony to proud parents Lillian And James Wilson (Jim). She had three brothers David Peter and Michael.

Gillian lived in Crewe all of her life. She went to Brierley Street school and was popular with both pupils and teachers alike. She played netball and she really enjoyed it. After finishing school she worked at Tesco and Normid, she enjoyed her time at both places and she loved the banter with her friends at work.

Gill lived in a few places in her lifetime like Meredith Street, Moathouse, Allen Place and finally Barnabas Avenue where she lived for the last 36 years or so.

Gill had her first son Graham Roy (as she liked to give him his full title) in 1975, Gill then met Robert in 1978 and married in 1984 they then had two children Stewart in 1984 and Katie 1986, they separated in 1991.Then in 1997 along came Nicole who was raised by Gillian as her own. Her children made her complete. We know Graham was her blue-eyed boy, Stewart was her pride and joy, Katie was her pudding and chips and Nicole was her chickadee,-truth be known she loved them all and they all wanted the best for her.

In years gone by Gill loved socialising down the West End, like The Monkey where she played darts and the Prince of Wales and some of you might remember The Dirty Duck, the days of lager and black, Pernod and lemonade, nights at the Weston Sports Club. With her kids back then life was full.

She loved gardening watching things grow and took pride in her home, liked bingo and Gill made the best Sunday roast you could have, she loved a good curry and her fried egg butties were a legend.

Gill enjoyed a good crossword ,was fond of reading magazines and liked the telly, the usual soaps but she also liked Heartbeat and The Bill and Mrs Browns Boys was a must and Kate remembers hearing her mums laughter from upstairs as she watched that show.

She’d go down town and buy things for her beloved seven grandchildren, Jessica, Ellie, Lily, Declan, Lexie, Ruby and Alfie. She loved them more than anything, doted on them some would say.

Her children remember caravan holidays to Towyn and holidays abroad to Spain, Alcudia, Portugal, Tunisia, Bulgaria and Turkey. Nothing was nicer though then having her family around her. Katie has memories of doing driving lessons on Tuesday and then doing a bit of gardening with mum and having a chippy dinner, you can’t get better than that.

Now as any of her children will tell you she would say it as it was and if you were at the end of that woe-be-tied you. She was one unique, one of a kind lady.

Nothing was nicer for the family then seeing mum happy smiling and enjoying every day.

Family and friends cared very much for Gill and have always wanted the best for her and as time goes by will be left with the memory of Gill who did the best she could.

Gill sadly passed away on 6th October 2020 at Leighton Hospital.

Her funeral took place on Wednesday 21st October at Crewe Crematorium.
