Glenis Cole

All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my mother.

Mum Sadly passed away on Friday 22nd May 2020 at Leighton
Hospital after s short illness leaving behind her daughter Sharon, son-in-
law Stuart, granddaughter Orla & brother Mick. A great friend to many over
the years, who became like her extended family, especially following the
death of her husband Mick in 2015.
Mum was born on 7 th February,1943 at Linden Grange Crewe to parents
Jack & Nell Mason. A child born in wartime, but luckily with no memory of
it. Two years later she was joined by her brother Mick. Many happy times
were had by Mum & Mick with their friends around Frank Bott Avenue in
Crewe until sadly Nell passed away in 1954, which left Jack struggling to
cope with a full-time job & raising two children.
After leaving Ludford Street school at the age of 15 Mum started to work at
County Clothes (Austin Reed) in Crewe manufacturing suits for the rich & famous.

She told many tales about the seamstresses sewing secret
messages into the lining of suits that were being manufactured for the
latest pop star.

Mum married Cyril Jones in September 1964 & went on to have their only
daughter Sharon in April 1971. Unfortunately, their marriage broke down &
Mum took Sharon & moved away from Crewe for a short time before
moving back to Crewe to live with her Dad for a while. However, in later life
Glenis & Cyril set aside their differences to attend Sharon’s University
Graduation together plus a few other social functions before Cyril passed
away in 2001.

Mum had known the Cole family from an early age & had worked with John
& Maureen at The Crosville Club behind the bar throughout the 60’s. She
met up with Mick, John’s brother & their relationship flourished.
Mum married Mick Cole in December 1975 & they set up home together in
Holland Street in Crewe. Both worked hard, with little money initially to
establish their home, look after & provide for their family. Friends & family
were always welcome around their house & very often fed & watered on
stew, rice pudding, sausage sandwiches – such delicacies which are fondly
remembered by many.

During this time Mum started to work at Data General in Crewe working on
computer board circuitry a detailed & meticulous job whereas usual she
showed commitment & determination plus hard work which did not go
unnoticed. She worked with her boss Andy, for many years moving with
him to new roles/companies & they remained firm friends up until the
present day. Mum also met several other friends from her days at Data,
who are also now firm family friends for life.
Despite working full time plus running a household Mum looked after &
cared for her Dad, Jack, throughout the 1990’s until he passed away in 1999.

One of her Dad’s social carers suggested that Mum would be good
in social care as she had seen the care & kindness shown to Jack during
the visits to his home.
So during her 60’s, Mum started to work out in the community part time
caring for the elderly & then later on as a Healthcare Assistant at Leighton
Hospital a career that she loved & finally felt that she had found her niche in
life & wished she had followed the path earlier on in her life. She finally
retired at 70. Due to her hard work, commitment & passion for her work at
Leighton, she recently bumped into a few of her old colleagues during her
illness, which gave the family comfort that she was being looked after &
cared for excellently with people she knew, during the current times where
family are not able to be in the same setting.

For as long as we can remember Mum has always worked hard, shown
much determination & commitment into everything she does from actual
working, to caring for her family & friends.  Such an unselfish person who
has consistently put other people first before her own wants & needs. She
& Mick moved to Pickmere Court Crewe in June 2011 due to his ailing
mobility. Even though Glenis felt that she had lost her home & potentially
some of her freedom this did not stop her making new friends, running
errands for her friends & telling the committee/ staff at the Pickmere what
she thought & how they should deal with issues. Her honest &
straightforward attitude was welcomed by many!

A pivotal point in her life was the birth of her granddaughter, Orla who was
born in August 2013. Orla was the apple of her eye & Nana loved spending
time with her, picking her up from school & having sleepovers. Orla gave
Mum a focus & someone to concentrate her energies on  especially
when Mick died in 2015, plus Stuart &; I certainly needed her help & advice
on how to raise a child. Mum recently moved to Nantwich to be nearer to
us,  to spend more time with Orla, but sadly our plans will not come to
fruition.
We know that my Mum will be missed by many people. We have received
so many lovely messages from family, friends & friends of Mum’s that we
do not know. Mum has shown kindness to so many people, nothing was
too much trouble for her  to help people, as best as she could. She
was very young at heart, certainly did not look 77 years of age especially
with her choice of hair style & clothing. I could not have wished for a better
Mum who I would class as one of my best friends she took a piece of my
heart with her on May 22nd.
We would also like to thank all the staff at Leighton Hospital, especially
Ward 15, for looking after Mum with such care during her last days.

    Wedding Suits.

I remember the first day we met you way back in 2008, We were there watching them try on suits for the big day.
Stuart came out of the changing room looking slightly dishevelled with his jacket collar sticking up and his shirt hanging out. You tutted and told him to tuck his self in.

Then out of the changing room came the Best Man (my husband), strutting around like the proverbial Peacock. Straight away your eyes lit up as you said “Now that’s how you wear a suit Stuart”

We shall miss spending time with you on our trips up to sunny Crewe, whether it was an afternoon in the pub, or at the flat with you cramming raw Black Pudding down my throat or a cheeky Prosecco!

You were funny, straight talking, and loving, and we adored you. Stuart and Sharon will miss you dearly and we will continue to support them and our wonderful God Daughter in all they do. You will never be forgotten Glenis, and will always be in our hearts, we will raise a toast to you tomorrow,

All our love always and forever

We didn’t have the privilege of knowing Glenis for long but from the time we did spend with her she displayed her love and thoughtfulness to her friends and family. She was always upbeat, had a great sense of humour and one thing we loved about her was her directness. You will be missed.
Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
    Rest in Peace Glenis.

    Sausage Sandwiches!
During this the saddest of times all I can think about is the many Sunday mornings Sharon and I would descend on Glenis & Mick for Sunday breakfast after a night on the tiles in Nantwich getting up to all sorts of fun. Those time’s were so special and just exemplified the wonderful nature that Glenis possessed. She welcomed me into her home and her life. If Sharon and Myself were the Will and Grace of Nantwich then Glenis filled the role of Bobbi Adler better than Debbie Reynolds ever could.

To say you will be missed is such an understatement but your legacy is the impact you had on others and how you made them feel better about themselves.

Love always and Rest in Peace lovely lady
