Graham Herbert Allen
“Not just today, but a lifetime through, we will always treasure memories of you”
Our beloved Graham passed away peacefully at Leighton Hospital on 1st September 2020 having recently contracted pneumonia, his immediate family were by his side.
Graham was born in Crewe in 1933, living there all his life and in childhood, had to deal with the death of his mother which resulted in him being brought up by other family members. Growing up, he did his National Service in the army in Egypt before moving home and marrying Margaret in 1957. In doing so, he found himself a ready-made family, giving a home to her brothers Alan, Colin and David. Graham gladly took on the responsibility of raising the young twins Colin and David as his own during the early part of their marriage.
Graham was employed in a variety of jobs, sometimes doing multiple jobs to support his family – he took great pride in finishing his working career at Rolls Royce. Sons Neil and Ian came into the family and then too did daughters in law Joanne and Amanda and work moved them away from Crewe but they all returned regularly to maintain the strong family bond.
Retirement saw Graham take on the responsibility of being a grandad to Daniel, Jenna and Oscar, generously passing on his love and support to all his extended family. Always ready with an anecdote, Graham was never happier than when he spent time with his family, especially when sharing a glass of wine or whisky!
Later this month would have seen Graham and Margaret celebrate 63 years of marriage. His positive impact on the lives of many will be remembered by all and he will be sadly missed.
His funeral will take place at Crewe Crematorium on Friday 18th September at 11:30. Due to the current restrictions, numbers accessing the chapel will be strictly limited but mourners are welcome to gather outside the chapel or stream the service online via O’Connells and can also join the family afterwards for a drink to commemorate Graham at The Sydney Arms. We are limiting flowers to family only and will collect donations in lieu of flowers by cash or cheque made payable to “Ward 1 Leighton Hospital“
I have many happy memories of my cousin Graham. Our families remained close and the Christmas morning gatherings were special for us all. My sister June, our mother and I also had some lovely holidays with Graham and Margaret . I shall miss him but the happy memories will remain.
