Ian Haig Cooke
"Memories are precious, they don't go away. We think of you always and not just today."
“Memories are precious, they don’t go away. We think of you always and not just today.”
Ian was born Crieff, Scotland on the 6th June 1952.
He started his working life as a butcher, but at the age of 18 he left home to join the Royal Marines.
After many travels abroad with the Marines he went to Northern Ireland on a tour of duty and this is when he met the love of his life, Thomasina. They were to marry six months later and moved to Plymouth, where 18 months later their eldest son, Ross was born.
Ian now decided he wanted to settle down in the family way so he left the Marines and the family moved to Crewe where their second son, Dean was born.
Ian worked at Bentley for a few years, but he never forgot the friends he made while serving in the forces. He liked nothing better than getting together on a Saturday night in the pub with a few family and friends over a pint or two.
He was a wonderful dad to the two boys and in the coming years a brilliant grandad to Callum and Megan.
Before he passed away he was able to hold his new grandson, Teddy, who was only days old, making his life complete. The family will be eternally grateful to Ward 1 at Leighton Hospital for allowing this to happen.
Ian’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 22nd September in the crematorium chapel, Crewe at 10.45am.
Donations in memory of Ian will be gratefully received on behalf of British Heart Foundation.
