“Sad are the hearts that love you. Silent are the tears that fall.”
Peacefully on the 14th April at Lawton Manor Nursing Home, knowing she was loved and cared for by her devoted family, aged 82 years. The beloved wife of the late Norman, loving mum of Chris, Sue and Jenny, and a dear gran and great gran. Jean will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Jean was born on Sunday 15th November 1936 in Alsager, to parents Frederick and Edna Birchall. She was born in the house that her grandfather had built, which was now the family home. She had four sisters, twins Helen and Anne, Freda and Mary. Her schooling was at the Crewe Grammar School.
After leaving school Jean started working for a solicitors, later working at Alsager Comprehensive School, firstly in the kitchens before moving over to work in the office.
Jean met Norman whilst working at English Electric and they eventually married on 15th February 1958 at Alsager Methodist Church. They went on to have three children, Christopher, Susan and Jennifer and six grandchildren, Kirsty, Rebecca, Jessica, Gemma, Joe and Georgia. They also have a great grandson, Oscar. They had a happy marriage that lasted just over 58 years, until Norman sadly passed away on 28th March 2016.
Jean had a variety of hobbies. She was a keen knitter, making teddy bears and clothes for toys and plenty of nice warm jumpers for all the family. She also enjoyed playing bowls and cooking, particularly pies and cakes. She was a bit of a thespian, enjoying amateur dramatics.
She loved her holidays, both with the children when they were younger and later with her and Norman and friends, especially with her late friends Anne and Roy. She made many, many friends over the year and the family would like to thank them all for being there for Jean through the years.
Jean’s funeral will take place on Friday 26th April in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 1.20pm. Family flowers only please, donations kindly received in her memory for Cancer Research Uk.
