Jean Christine Carter

Nothing on Earth Will Ever Replace The Sound Of Your Voice Or The Smile On Your Face.

Jean sadly passed away on 17th November 2020 at Leighton Hospital aged 74 years.

The beloved wife of the late George Carter, a much loved mum to Andrew and a cherished grandma to George, Harry & Grace.

Jean was also a dear sister to Maureen, Norma, Lynne, Christopher & Brian.

Her funeral will take place on Monday 30th November at Crewe Crematorium.

Donations to the British Heart Foundation will be gratefully received in memory of Jean.

Jean was born in Crewe in 1946, she grew up on Cherry Tree Road
with her parents Edna & George and her brothers and sisters,
Maureen, Norma, Brian, Lynne and Christopher.
Jean eventually started school at Monks Coppenhall, and then
went on to Brierley Street Senior School. Jean didn’t like school
and would quite often try to have days off, as she didn’t see the
point of learning about the Romans, Vikings and Henry VIII. Jean
never did her homework, but on one occasion was required to
write a poem. She got one out of the books at home and
submitted it as homework. It was mounted and displayed in the
school hall and received a certificate for writing it. Jean never
admitted it to anyone outside the family what she had done.
Jean wasn’t a morning person and needed her own time to come
around in the morning. She could never understand how is was
possible to get up and start talking and being active soon after
getting out of bed and couldn’t do with “idle chatter” and her
sisters were often accused of “talking drivel”.
Jean left school at 15 and went to work at Woolworths serving
customers, but her artistic flair was soon recognised and she
became a window dresser which she loved.
Jean went on to working at a few different places like
McCorquodales Security Printers, a Mens outfitters shop in
Queensway where she became manageress, Cummins Motor Body
Builders where she learnt how to fibreglass, which came in useful
later in life to repair canopy roofs and fishponds. Jean also went
to work at Rolls Royce where she worked in the wax room, making
wax moulds for the “Spirit Of Ecstasy” flying lady figures.
Later on with her dad, they became the Steward & Stewardess
of the P.way club in Gresty Road, they went on to get ‘The Star’
in Victoria Street and Jean also worked as relief manager in

several pubs. Jean eventually took over ‘The Star’ when her Mum
and Dad were offered a new pub, The Flying Lady in Crewe.
She first met George when she worked at the P.way club and
after many years, that friendship turned into romance. It wasn’t
long after that they went off and secretly got married, only
making the announcement at a family get together later that
evening.
Jean then started to work at Georges Shop, Carter’s Jewellers
where she became a tower of strength to George. Her window
dressings as ever were spectacular and were complimented on by
many of customers. Jean & George went onto having a son
together Andrew. Andrew eventually started working in the
Jewellers carrying on the family tradition and eventually took
over when George passed away.
Jeans hobbies were flower arranging and cake making, her
wedding cakes especially were where she excelled, they were out
of this world. She has probably made some kind of cake for most
of the people in this congregation over the years.
Jean loved to go on holiday. Not only growing up going to Great
Yarmouth with her family, but once with George they loved going
to Benidorm, sometimes up to 3 times a year. With her skills she
was able to turn their appartment into a home from home, making
homemade curtains, recovering furniture, wallpapering and tiling,
nothing seemed to faze them, anything for a excuse to go to that
‘Sunday Market’. The holidays to Benidorm were her favourite,
spending it with all the family she went with, from her husband
George, her Mum and Dad, son Andrew and Grandchildren George
Harry & Grace, to other family members including sisters, aunties
and cousins.
Jean loved all of her family and with the big heart that she had
would do anything for anyone. Family meant everything. Family

parties always held a special place in her heart, and today would
be a disappointed for her that we can’t get together after this
ceremony, to raise a glass to her altogether. Although I’m sure
most of you will raise a glass for her at home tonight.

Jean,- a funny, friendly cousin. Talented in so many ways, whatever she turned her hand to, she achieved success. A huge character and much loved, the party girl – Shirl. She lit up the room. A loving, true and free spirit. She taught us so much about living life to the full.

With love from Di, Michael, Andrew, Mary and the family here in Wales. X
