John was a kind, caring, quiet sort of man. He was a great dad to Carl, Debbie and the late Neil, and a loving granddad to Jack. He was always ready to give a hug or a cuddle. A good friend to many.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with all family members, but especially Trish, John’s loving wife.
John was born in Mancot, North Wales, moving with his family to Ellesmere Port, where he later served his time as a plater. At age 24 he migrated to Peterhead to embark on a career in the oil industry as a plater on the oil rigs.
Scotland became John’s second home. Here he was to spend the majority of his life. He did not acquire a Scottish accent but that did not stop him enjoying Scottish culture.
Marriage beckoned for Trish and John. They were wed in Crimond, near Peterhead, in 1978.
So now it was happy family life with Trish and the children Debbie, Carl and the late Neil, Thus, for example, they had some delightful holidays to places like Cuba, Mexico and Tenerife. John liked to properly explore the places they visited. He was always interested in what was going on.
John developed a keen interest in fish aquatics. He was a fish breeder, at one time having as many as 13 aquariums. Trish was given the job of looking after the fish while John was away on the oilrigs. In later life the fish and the aquariums disappeared, but John remained knowledgeable about fish and continued his interest.
In fact, John had a wide set of interests. He loved TV documentaries on history or wildlife. He was a bit of a film buff and possessed all sorts of films on DVDs. And of course there was his love of football – in particular his support for Liverpool. The Liverpool theme song “You’ll never walk alone” was played at the end of the service.
After Trish and John retired in 2016, they migrated south to their delightful countryside home in “The Park” (that is, Western Park, Winterley).
Life took on a more leisurely pace, and that important relationship with grandson Jack could be deepened. The holidays abroad gave way to daytrips, mainly to North Wales, from where of course John had originated. John and Trish happily became part of the Park community. His cheerful presence there will be greatly missed.
While John’s health has not been good in recent years, his passing at the relatively young age of 71 was not expected, especially given the excellent attention he had been receiving from Ashfields Primary Care, notably Dr Brocklebank, and Leighton Hospital. So the family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to all the relevant staff.
There are countless ripples which continue from his life, particularly the impact his life and love have had on his wider family – on Carl and Debbie and Andy and their son Jack, not forgetting the late Neil.
We think also of John’s membership over the years of various social and working communities. Think too about the oil we all use which comes from the North Sea, and John’s contribution to the oil industry, even if he was only a small part of something much bigger.
John was a man who enjoyed his life. He had purpose in what he did and found the world to be full of interest. He contributed positively to the life of those around him. May he now rest in peace.
John’s funeral will take place at Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Monday 17th April at 10am
Donations in memory of John will be gratefully received for The British Heart Foundation
