"Your life was one of kindly deeds, a helping hand for others needs."

Date passed: 18th of January 2020

Funeral date: 31st of January 2020

“Your life was one of kindly deeds, a helping hand for others needs.”

At Leighton Hospital, Ken passed peacefully away surrounded by the love of his devoted wife Freda and family. A much loved husband, step-brother and good friend, who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

Ken was born on Tuesday, the 12th of August 1924 to proud parents George Albert and Elsie May. In Whetheoak Hill, Alverchurch, Worcestershire. He had a younger sister, Joan R.I.P as well as step brothers Gerald, Derek, Frederick and step sister Eileen. He went to Earls Wood School, Worcestershire and after passing his 11+ went to George Dixon Grammar School, Birmingham.

He loved all kinds of Sport as a young man, and this passion stayed with him all his life.

His first job was on the railway but he was called up and went in the RAF 365 Coastal command and was stationed in both Africa and Gibraltar.
Ken met and fell in love with a young lady called Freda and the marriage has lasted for over 66 years, something Ken and Frida were so proud of. After his duty in the RAF he went back to work for the railway company based in Birmingham, he worked in the Continental Railway office in Birmingham, a job he thoroughly enjoyed, Ken retired at 60 to spend more time with Freda exploring the countries of the world. He loved places like Spain and Switzerland. Ken was a person who loved culture and was a real gift to those who met him.

He supported Birmingham City football club and enjoyed the race meetings at Uttoxeter. His happiest times were spent in Ballaghaderreen,  Roscommon fishing. Ken was welcomed with open arms. He was a genuinely happy person. He helped many people in need and was always the first to raise his hand to help. You may remember Ken from St Andrews Methodist church.

He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by many in the community of Haslington. He was a man not interested in material things but in helping people. May he rest in peace.

Ken’s funeral will take place on Friday 31st January in St. Michael and All Angel’s Church, Crewe Green at 2.15pm, followed by cremation at Crewe Crematorium.

Donations in memory of Ken will be gratefully received on behalf of the North Staffs hospital cardiac ward.

Ken was a lovely, kind hearted man and had a wonderful sense of humour which will be greatly missed. We always loved hearing his tales, whether about the best route to take from Cheshire to Sheffield, or his times flying soil scientists to Africa to look for spots to cultivate peanuts. It was a blessing to have known such a kind, cheerful man, who I will forever visualise (since hearing the tale) of him riding to work on the back of Dad’s motorbike. Our love and thoughts are with you Freda.
