***************************************************************************************************************
Lawrence McKendrick was born on the 6th August 1939 in Paisley Scotland. He then moved to Northern Ireland with mum and his sister Marie. This is where he spent many years when growing u p. But he did return back to his homeland of Paisley. When he was 17 years of age he joined the Merchant Navy for a number of years which was an important time in his life. Upon leaving the Navy he lived in Helsby Cheshire where he then married his first wife Florence.
He always worked to provide for his wife and daughter Louise who he was very proud of and was very keen that she had the best education possible. Lawrence then become a proud grandfather of Max, Ivan, and Oscar. Following on from the Navy Lawrence trained and qualified has a electrical engineer for over 20 years first starting has an electricians mate. He worked for a company called BICC and went round checking council properties, buildings and carrying out electrical work for Cheshire East County Council. But the role also involved visiting Police and Fire stations so just like the Navy was vital work.
And also later in his working life he became the Caretaker at Local School where he lived in Helsby. Lawrence had many hobbies /interests in life. You will see on the Order of Service his interest in Crown green Bowls which took him around Cheshire and the North wales Coast. Also car boots and buying lots of always useful stuff of course that he would then be found in one of his 3 sheds repairing things and in particular watch repairs. 3 man caves not bad going. But I think his main passion was a Life Long Manchester United Football fan. Somebody has to be so we wont hold that against him. Come of Crewe.
And his passion for sport and in particular football was passed onto William by being kit man and manager on the touchline giving encouragement . Best leave that one there. He also liked clubs and dancing and that is where he met Shirley. So one night Shirley was out on the town with her 2 friends which was a regular thing with all being on there own. So this was where the charm offensive began and Lawrence went up to the 3 ladies but Shirley’s friends went to dance and that left 2 and has they say the rest is history. The interesting part here was this took place at wait for it Crewe FC who held regular shows which also became a regular night on the town for Shirley and Lawrence. They also liked Rock n Roll and 60s music and went to events. But what I would like to ask did the club know there was a Manchester United Fanatic on the loose in Crewe.
So Lawrence persuaded Shirley for a date so they arranged to meet on MFI carpark the last of the big romantics. But it wasn’t all smooth running when they were due to meet at the Headless woman Tarporley Lawrence was a no show but it doesn’t end there. But when Shirley got back home she noticed Lawrence had followed her home. So did not take long to be forgiven. So they met in 1993 and got married in June 1993 which was also the year Grandson William was born.
They lived in wales for 8 years but returned back to Crewe in 2011 which is where they remained and to be close to family and friends. They were married for 30 years. But sadly in later in life Lawrence started suffering from ill health and for the last 3 years he was bed bound after suffering seizures and strokes and sadly on 31.10.2021 aged 82 years of age Lawrence passed away in the care of Station House care Home. And Shirley would like to thank the wonderful care of all the staff at station House.
Lawrence you are now at peace with our Lord Jesus Christ. God bless and may you rest in peace and rise in glory.
Amen.
