Lily Ann Vaughan
“You showed us how to love and smile”
Lily was born on 10th April 1944.
A beloved wife of Hugh, devoted mum to Deborah, Gayle & Nichola, cherished nan
of Emma, Liam, Rhys, Connor, Callum & Leah, Lily, an auntie and dear friend to so
many. Lily was a lovely lady who had many facets to her diamond personality, she
was an inspiration, such a genuine lady who was pretty inside and out, a beautiful
soul who had a great sense of humour and Debbie told me how her mum selflessly
remained positive and full of fun knowing she was nearing the end of her life. Lily
was much loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Remembering Lily
A collage of words to describe and remember Lily’s character would be: fun, loving,
mischievous, loyal, bubbly, determined & defensive if anyone said anything wrong,
the Liverpool spirit was always there! Mind you, the feisty side could have been
down to the red hair!
Lily was the daughter of Lily & James Turner, born & raised in Liverpool where she
met the love of her life, Hugh. Hugh came to London from Ireland and working on
the trains, he made many journeys to Liverpool. Because both Lily and Hugh loved
60s music, they ended up meeting at a party and hit it off straight away.
Photographs taken during that era show how smart they looked, fashionably dressed
with Lily wearing her hair in a perfectly quaffed beehive & Hugh incredibly dapper in
his suits. A great sense of humour and fun has always been in abundance in the
household for us as children, this humour has helped carry us through some difficult
times too. Lily never left Hugh’s side for long and cared for him for many years after
his accident, a true testament of love and commitment, as they declared in their
wedding vows, till death us do part. A strong lady who inspired us all. Fag ash Lil
was a name Hugh used for his darling wife; she never smoked a fag in her life but it
always made her laugh.
On 10th December 2020, Lily passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.
Lily’s funeral will take place on Thursday 17th December at Birches Crematorium.
Donations for Cancer Research UK in memory of Lily will be gratefully received.
