“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves us memories no one can steal.”
In the care of Leighton Hospital, Lynn sadly passed away on the 4th November, aged just 65 years.
Lynn was a devoted wife to David, loving mum to Sharon, mother in law to Lucas,
sister to Graeme, sister in law to Pete and Jean, Susan, Graham and Gwen, Brian
and Marina, Judith and the late Barry, Andrew and Kath. She was an auntie, cousin
and a good friend to Gill, Ali, Sue and Keith and many more.
She was a kind and caring lady; totally unassuming. Lynn loved going out with
friends, but she would never draw attention to herself. She resisted having her
photograph taken and if she couldn’t avoid it, she was never in the forefront of the
photo, she skilfully shifted into the background.
Lynn was quite timid in her younger days but quietly independent, extremely capable
and dependable. As she progressed through her career, her confidence increased.
She was a wages administrator for most of her career, working for several
companies including Rolls Royce, Foden’s and Atos. Dealing with wages, she often
had to handle difficult and sometimes emotive situations. She was strong willed; she
wouldn’t tolerate anyone shouting or being discourteous and wasn’t afraid to speak
her mind but that said, Lynn was friendly and sociable.
Lynn was welcomed into the world on 13th June 1955, a much-loved daughter for
Roy and Brenda Fletcher and a younger sister for Graeme. She had a happy,
modest childhood, she wasn’t spoilt, her mum and dad lived within their means. It
seems Lynn never liked dolls, she was a tomboy who preferred dressing in a cowboy
hat and a toy gun and although her mum and dad bought her a lovely new pram, she
often filled it with sand or anything other than a doll!
Lynn attended Market Street Church of England School which is now known as
Peter Wilson’s auctioneers. After the family moved to Crewe, she first went to
Eddleston Road then Kingsway School. Lynn left school to work at Aford
Bond Accountants; she was offered a job at Redsands Children’s Centre but
declined and started work at Manweb in Macon Way.
She and David met in their teens at ‘up the junction’ on Christmas Eve 1971. They
married in 1976 and moved into their first home on Evans Street in Coppenhall.
They moved to their forever home in Springfield Drive in 1982 and their only
daughter Sharon was born in 1983.
They enjoyed family holidays every year and Lynn loved Florida so much they went
every other year. The alternate years they visited places like Majorca, Spain and
Cornwall. They also liked the Cotswolds and often had long weekend breaks in a
nice hotel in Birdlip, visiting lovely villages like Broadway and Bourton on the Water.
After Sharon followed her own career, Lynn regularly went to see her in Manchester
and then in London and one of her happiest visits to London was for Sharon and
Lucas’s wedding despite it snowing, although they did hold their wedding celebration
ceremony in Manchester on a gloriously hot, sunny day the following May.
Lynn’s story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning her passion for animals. She
supported the donkey sanctuary, often visited the seal centre, fed the birds in the
garden and had a menagerie of pets including their two dogs Soda and Ollie.
A devoted wife and mother, Lynn will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all her family, friends and everyone who knew her.
A service of celebration for the life of Lynn will take place in Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Tuesday the 17th November.
