Malcolm Butt
‘Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday’
Surrounded by the love of his family, Malcolm passed away on Tuesday 10 November – aged 79 years. The beloved husband of Beryl, much loved dad to Paul, Amanda and Stuart – father-in-law to Paul and cherished grandad to Millie.
Malcolm (Malc) was born on the longest day of the year – 21st June 1941 – at Back Barn Field, to loving parents James and Ida Butt. He was the eldest of three children – having two sisters, Margaret and Maralyn. Their family home was in Rigg Street, Crewe – where they lived happily for many years.
Malc attended Adelaide Street Primary School and then on to Ludford Street Secondary School. He had very fond memories of his childhood – telling stories of playing in the bricky sand pit on Brooklands and pinching apples from the rectory’s orchard – which was located across from St Michaels – and where Amanda, Paul and Millie now live. Malcolm loved the fact that within Amanda’s garden, is the original pear tree which he used to climb as a child. Such happy memories.
Upon leaving school, Malcolm followed in his fathers footsteps – he secured an apprenticeship within Crewe Locomotive Works and successfully became a skilled fabricator and foreman – spanning a period of nearly 30 years. Later in his career, Malcolm went on to become a Learning Disability Support Worker – a role which he embraced until his retirement.
He loved a night at the Town Hall – the place to be if you wanted to dance. This is where he met Beryl – nearly 60 years ago. They married on the 23rd of March 1963 – at St Johns Church, Crewe – and were rarely apart from that day. Following their marriage, Malcom and Beryl started a family – having 3 children – which Malc doted on – Paul, Amanda and the late Stuart. In 2007 he gained a son-in-law, Paul, followed by the apple of his eye, his Granddaughter Millie. He was a magical Dad and Grandad, always making them smile, always laughing, always joking and always telling a story. He always let his family know how loved they were – how special they were and how immensely proud he was of them. Malc’s family was his life, nothing came in between.
He was a DIY enthusiast, always keen to put his overalls on – spending hours tinkering in his garage, or tidying the garden. Malcom loved swimming and attended the gym regularly. He loved history – during family holidays he would tell stories about the places which they visited, and the myths and legends associated – adding magic to each trip. Millie called him her Big Friendly Giant. He was a big fan of Harry Potter, and would always swish and flick someone if they were having a tough time. You would always find Malcom at his best during Christmas, his favourite time of the year.
Malc will always be with his family, he’s their very own professor Dumbledore. His family can’t put into words how much he’s loved. He’s at peace now with Stuart – looking down on them all.
There are many special memories, and Malcolm will live on in his family’s hearts forever. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Malc’s funeral will take place at St. Michael’s Church, Coppenhall on Friday 27th November at 12.45pm, followed by interment in the family grave in the churchyard.
Donations in memory of Malcolm will be gratefully received on behalf of the Children’s Ward at Leighton Hospital.
So sorry to hear the sad news of Malcolm, a lovely neighbour for over 35 years. Will be sadly missed.
