Malcolm Dean

“Always Loved, never forgotten and forever missed.”

Malcolm passed away at home on 8th December aged 87 years.  Devoted husband of Flo.  Loving Father of Karen and Gary and Son-in- Law Paul.  Special brother to Christine.  Cherished Grandfather  to Karl & Kelly, Rachel & Graeme,  Ashley, Bradley & Abbie and Great Grandfather of Lilly Grace & Poppy.

Malcolm George Dean was born on 8th January 1935. He was the eldest of 4 children born to his parents Nellie and George. He had three sisters; Hazel and Jenny who have sadly predeceased him, but Christine is with us today.

Malc attended Bedford Street School until he was sixteen, he then went on to undertake an apprenticeship as a fitter in Crewe Works. With a little money in his pocket Malc and his friends would seek out their own entertainment and on one fateful night Malc and a friend went to Belle Vue in Manchester to watch the speedway.

That same night Flo and her friend, who lived in Manchester,  were also at Belle View, although Flo really can’t remember why they went there because speedway wouldn’t have been her choice of entertainment. But, that evening would change both their lives for ever.

The two boys started chatting to the two girls and one thing led to another. Malc was just 19 and Flo was 17, just teenagers, but they were smitten!

Our star crossed lovers courted for 4 years before getting married on 29th March 1958. They set up home in Crewe, which must have been a real upheaval for Flo, moving to a new place and having to make friends and get to know her way around the town, but with Malc there to help her she never had to worry about anything. Malc got a new job at Rolls Royce.

They were blessed with two children; Karen arrived in 1962 and Gary followed in 1964. Malc was a really hands on dad, when he wasn’t working he was always there to help Flo with the children. He was totally devoted to his family and they were the most important thing in his life.

Family holidays were usually taken along the south coast in Paignton. It gave them everything they needed for special family time. The journey was always taken in the car, a long journey for children in the back of the car, but time spent together which would be filled with a lot of laughter and fun to make the journey pass.

Malc enjoyed his football and followed Crewe Alexandra, they are his local side and the team which he was very proud of. Gary would attend many of the games with his dad. Malc also trained to be a referee with Cheshire and Border Counties, travelling all  over Cheshire and Staffordshire to officiate at matches. He even got to referee at the Alex, when he had to stand in for someone.

Once retired they spread their wings and travelled abroad many times. They loved Spain, especially Benidorm, where their grandsons lived when they were younger. It gave them everything they wanted in a holiday destination, sun, blue skies crystal clear sea lapping the beach.

At home they delighted in nights out at the Golden Garter and Jollies. Wonderful nights spent dancing and enjoying themselves in a way they cherished, but his greatest passion was his garden. He spent many hours outside, when the weather allowed just pottering around and sitting in the sun.

At night time he liked to sit out, with the lights twinkling, and take a little tipple. It gave him time and space to ponder about things and look at the sky, just as he had as a young man in the early days when he and Flo first met.

Family was very important to Flo and Malc, they welcomed their first grandson Karl into the family in 1985, he was followed three years later by Rachel. Ashley was born in 1995 and Bradley in 2000. Malc and Flo took to their new roles with joy and pleasure. They love them all and spent many happy hours watching them grow.

Great granddaughter Lilly Grace or squeaky as she was known was born in 2011 on the day that Flo and Malc celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary. In 2021 Poppy was born, quite a legacy I am sure you will agree, and so many happy years shared in the heart of the family he adored.

Malcolm’s funeral will take place at Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Wednesday 21st December at 12.15
