Martin Stuart Nicol
“Our precious memories keep you near.”
Martin sadly passed away in the care of Leighton Hospital on the 18th November, aged just 64 years.
Born on 11th June 1956 in Crewe, Martin was one of three children born to parents Alec and June. He has two sisters Sue and Jane.
He attended Totty’s Hall Primary School and Ludford Street. On leaving school he gained employment at Sheffield Forgemaster Foundry on Weston Lane – he worked there for 32 years – leaving in 2003.
He went on to work at B&Q and Royal Mail before taking on the position of caretaker at Wistaston Church Lane Academy.
Martin was a willing and hard working man. He understood the benefits a working life could bring, and he always tried to give of his best in what ever he did.
Martin joined Wistaston Church Lane Academy as the Assistance Caretaker in October 2019. Immediately he fitted in with the team like he’d always been there.
He needed to be up early every day in the dark to come along and open up school at 6am. Clearing snow and ice, brushing up leaves and acorns, fixing toilets and building furniture, he worked really hard to make sure things were safe for the staff and children.
Martin was a sociable man and threw himself into life from an early age, he always wanted to know what was around the next corner and allowed his adventurous spirit to lead him on his journey through life. He enjoyed a pint and a game of darts or dominoes in the evening or at weekends.
Martin and his wife Linda had travelled across Europe, visiting Spain, Tunisia, and Yugoslavia in the days before the children arrived but more recently holidays were always family affairs at Butlins or beach holidays staying in a caravan – time spent with his family was really important to Martin.
The last holiday everyone spent together was in September at Butlins in Skegness, it was such a special time, just before Martin received his diagnosis. Everyone had so much fun together it will live on in the memory of the family forever.
A grandfather to Melvin, Kelvin, JJ, Mitchell and Harlow. He relished their company and would do anything he could to ensure they were happy and safe.
As a young man he enjoyed fishing and his darts and dominoes and had a passion for motorbikes, in later life he turned his hand to woodwork and DIY.
His funeral will take place on Thursday the 3rd December in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 10am, followed by cremation.
