A beloved mum to John and Lee, they have lovingly cared for her despite the
difficulties of long term illness, but their abiding memories of those difficult years are
of her lovely smile, her resilience, the fact she never complained. She loved to see
people and was always very welcoming.
They have lost a treasured and much-loved mum and the best friend they could have
ever wished for, a beautiful soul who brought joy to their world and it feels so quiet
without her at home.
Today they want to celebrate her beautiful personality and her role in their close,
loving family.
Mary was the daughter of Jenny and Leslie, born in Crewe she had three brothers
and three sisters. Nicky says she was the most wonderful sister, her rock, and they
shared a happy family life. Mary is much loved.
She was an auntie to many including Stephen who travelled from South Wales. Lisa
too who has also travelled and Kathy a friend of Mary’s since the eighties.
She had many good friends who she enjoyed nights out with and a fun game of
bingo, although some have moved away or passed but Maureen was a very dear
friend.
Remembering Mary
Her sister Nicky wrote some notes about Mary’s life. She told me Mary met her
soulmate Stuart and they started their life together listing to T Rex, ‘hot love; and
cuddling on a picnic bench. They went on to get married in 1972 and have two great
sons John and Lee and have lived at St Paul’s Close together as a family for forty-
one years. John was nine and Lee was seven – John says it has taken thirty-seven
years to nurture the garden to what it is today.
Mary loved life and one of her favourite pastimes was to pack a picnic and drive to
places with Chris De Burgh playing. Lee told me she was a massive fan of his and
has been to forty-nine concerts, sadly she never quite made it fifty. He remembers
the time Chris de Burgh came into the audience and gave Mary a huge hug, she was
beyond thrilled! Nearly fainted when he sang to her.
John said as youngsters they were lucky enough to have many wonderful holidays
and he remembers she used to pack their little mini absolutely full of everything they
needed especially food! Nicky said “wow, Mary could pack for Britain!”
She was a big Disney fan – which was evident to me with all the little Disney figures
in her cabinet and Stuart lovingly used to call her Tinkerbell!
They first went to Euro Disney in 1992 and their initial trip to America developed into
every November for years to escape the cold although their last trip abroad was in
2007.

Mary was a big fan of music with an eclectic taste, especially Chris de Burgh and
Marc Bolan.
She loved watching Corrie and the classics on TV. She was an avid fan of quiz
shows and was unbelievably good at Countdown – particularly the maths – John and
Lee were in awe of how sharp she was and how she could beat many of the
contestants when it came to words.
She always enjoyed going to the theatre, going for trips out in the car, visiting places.
She liked to eat out and of course she loved a game of bingo. She had a natural
talent for crafting, making rag dolls, peg dolls, handmade cards and lots of other
creative things.
Mary astounded the lads with her technical skills including on her tablet and phone.
She was a dab hand with online shopping, social media, messenger, facebook .
Nicky poignantly wrote: When we think of Mary, we remember she would always
look on the bright side and would want you all to do that. Remember her with a
smile and love in your heart.
Mary was a part of our lives, and we were blessed to have known her love. God
bless Our Mary, until the day we meet once again – Love You.
John and Lee hope mum is reunited with her beloved Stuart in God’s care.
