**************************************************************************************************************************

Maureen was Tony’s beloved wife, fondly known by some as Mo, especially by her
sister Vron and Mo always referred to Tony and herself as MoTo, they even shared
the same birthdate albeit some years apart. Maureen may have been one half of
MoTo but she was also a devoted mum to Simon and close to his partner Judith.
She was a much-loved sister of Rosemary and Vronica, dear sister-in-law to Phil,
Ann, her husband Terry and Rosemary’s late husband Howard, an auntie, good
friend and respected colleague to many over the years and a doting ‘mum’ to their
dog Bella.
Maureen was a wonderful lady with a beautiful soul; she was always cheerful with an
infectious smile. She was hardworking and reliable, especially at work and well
thought of by the staff she managed on the railway. Extremely capable, she
achieved the role of manager, yet she was always willing to help at any level, the
epitome of motivation and an inspiration to her colleagues.
She was gracious and kind with a sincerity that gives people faith in human nature.
Totally selfless, Maureen would do anything for anyone, not for praise or gratitude,
she was immensely caring and generous with her time and love. She could have
become higher management, but it seems Maureen was a staff rep for many years
and never afraid to represent staff who felt unfairly treated and fight their corner.
Maureen was truly dedicated to her family, friends and former colleagues, someone
who valued the simple things in life like love and friendship, honesty and integrity.
Remembering Maureen
Maureen was born in Wrenbury on 26 th October 1944, the middle of three girls. She
normally travelled by train to the Convent School in Chester. It was a strict regime
and I gather after being disciplined and kept behind one day, she missed her train
home, and her father was so cross, he went into the school to complain.
At the age of sixteen, Maureen began work in the general office at Crewe Works and
one of her jobs was to take the pay packets around the works at the end of the week.
She left to have Simon, then after some time working for Harold Penks Bookies,
Maureen returned to the railway and took up a position in the account’s office, and it
was whilst working there she met Tony.
After exchanging their lasting vows in 1978, Maureen and Tony honeymooned in
Stratford Upon Avon and lived in Ruskin Road. They moved to Shavington two
years after getting married and stayed there for a further two years before moving to
Verdin Court in Coppenhall. After yet another house move to Renaissance Way off
Hungerford Road, they found their current bungalow in Willaston and have been
extremely happy there for twenty-two years.
Maureen retired from her job as Materials Manager shortly after moving to Willaston,
but it wasn’t long before she was asked to go back and despite not being in the best
of health, she remained committed and returned to help a struggling department.
Maureen and Tony had some shared interests although gardening wasn’t one of
them! Maureen had such an artistic flair and spent many happy hours tending to her
beautiful garden.

An array of colour in every inch of the borders with gorgeous varieties, she loved to
grow perennials from seed and the end result would have been worthy of a first prize
in any gardening competition.
She painstakingly sowed the seeds, pricked out the plants and nurtured them.
Planting out according to the season. Jude told me Maureen grew the best
tomatoes ever and the smallest cucumbers and she will be waiting patiently for Tony
to scold him now that he has reduced the work needed by laying decorative stones
in all her borders! She loved to have a vase of cut flowers in the house, and if she
none were ready to cut from the garden, especially in the winter, Simon and Jude
would buy her some or she would treat herself at the supermarket, on behalf of Tony
of course!
Besides the garden, she enjoyed knitting and did many gorgeous baby clothes for
charity. She was also very good at cross stitch. She liked jigsaw puzzles and could
finish a thousand piece one in two evenings without even having to look at the
picture.
She was extremely clever and incredibly good with general knowledge, the sort of
person everyone would love on their quiz team, and she loved quiz nights at the pub
every Sunday.
She was a master of sudoku and also liked playing cards although she had a
dreadful habit of forgetting to play the one card they were all waiting for!
Holidays were always very important to Maureen and Tony. They often went abroad
and had many wonderful holidays with the family as well as on their own, to
destinations like Florida, Spain, Canary Islands and the Balearics.
They both enjoyed walking despite Tony often taking them on long, unintended
detours adding another five mile or so to their original route – they always got lost,
particularly when abroad and Maureen was not amused!
Maureen and Tony definitely didn’t share a passion for trains, whenever he
mentioned going to Chester on the train, she said “no! it reminds me of going to the
convent!”
They did both love going to their caravan on the sea front in Abergele and often
spent weeks there only returning for hospital appointments or for Tony’s tennis
tournaments and although Maureen could play tennis, she only played for fun.
So many fond memories, Maureen is loved and missed beyond words.

May she rest in peace.
