“Love’s last gift, Rememberance”

Peacefully at Wrenbury Nursing Home, in the loving care of his family, Medwyn aged 83 years.

The devoted husband of the late Sally, dearest dad of Barry, Mandy, Mark and the late Paul who will be sadly missed by all who knew him and remembered especially for his time as a PE teacher at Ludford Street School and Alsager High School or at Peter Wilson Auctioneers.

Medwyn was born to proud parents Ann Grace and Caradoc, he was an older brother to Elvyd, Olga, Bryn and Dewi and also a younger half-brother to Lloyd. He had an extremely happy childhood and enjoyed his school years at Amlwch Grammer School very much, probably a sign of things to come! He particularly excelled in Physical Education and represented the school in many events, mainly football.

Music always played an important part in Medwyn’s life, he was a member of the Cemaes Bay Children’s Choir, performing in many concerts, even having the honour of performing at the Royal Albert Hall for the inaugural St. David’s Day National Festival concert.

On 8th April 1954, Medwyn embarked on the National Service, reporting to the 68th Regiment, Royal Artillery at Oswestry, joining up on 4th September, being stationed at Trieste. In 1956, at the age of 21, he was demobbed and returned to Cemaes Bay, where he joined the local Dramatic Society, appearing in many plays.

In April 1958 he married his childhood sweetheart, Sally and they moved to Crewe and over a period of 10 years the 4 children came along

In September of 1958 Medwyn started teaching at Ludford Street School in Crewe. He had a great deal of success with the Senior Boy’s Football team who became league champions for two years running. Medwyn started teaching at Alsager Secondary School in 1962. He had what can only be described as an illustrious career. He was a popular and respected member of staff and his dedication to his pupils knew no bounds. The football, athletics and swimming teams experienced unprecedented success.

When Medwyn took early retirement from teaching in 1988 he soon found gainful employment again at Peter Wilson Auctioneers. The job was made for him. As a porter he could combine his love of antiques and paintings with his friendly, outgoing personality. He had many happy years there.

In 2003 a building at Alsager School was named in Medwyn’s honour, a testament to his contribution, and it was something that filled him with pride.

During his lifetime, Medwyn spent time as a Butlin’s Redcoat in Pwllheli, mainly being the swimming pool attendant. He used to sing at several working men’s clubs around Crewe and the Potteries. One of his favourite hobbies was a game of snooker, often practicing on his own little table at home! He also love listening to Country and Western music.

Medwyn’s family would like you to join them for a celebration of his life in Crewe Crematorium Chapel on Thursday 6th December at 11.20am.

Any donations in his memory are for the valuable work of Dementia UK.

My deepest condolences for your loss, Mr Jones taught me from 1970 to 1975 and I can honestly say it was a great experience, he made PE or “games” fun and at that time we were allowed to have a go at all sports including boxing.. I remember that lesson with great fondness. He always taught with a smile on his face and made all his lessons fun.
I’m sure he will be sadly missed and will have made many happy memories for countless ex-pupils

    RIP

Mr Jones as we knew him was our great games teacher at Alsager comp. I remember him trying to teach us boxing with a very old set of gloves with no stuffing in. Someone very quickly got a thick lip and the gloves went back in the bag never to be seen again. A great man, thanks Medwyn and RIP.
    John Year of 74.
