Michael David Bennett “Micky”

"Sad are the hearts that love you. Silent the tears that fall"

Date passed: 10th of March 2018

Funeral date: 21st of March 2018

“Sad are the hearts that love you. Silent the tears that fall”

Surrounded by the love of his close family and at peace in his own home, Michael passed away on Saturday the 10th March, aged 71 years. The beloved husband of Glenys, much loved dad to Jayne and Clare. Also a cherished grandad, brother and father-in-law, who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends.

Michael was born on Saturday 22nd June 1946 to his proud parents, Harry and Ida at home in Oxford Street which was common in those days. He also had two brothers and a sister, Peter, Angela and Robert. Peter and Angela have since passed away.

He attended Glover Street, West Street and Ludford Street Schools in Crewe, leaving to be a machinist at Rolls Royce where he played football for the factory team.

His main employment was at British Rail where he worked for over 40 years and was awarded for his long and distinguished service. He eventually retired due to ill health.

Glenys and Michael met in the LMR Club at a New Years Eve Party in 1965, engaged by 1966 (the year that England won the first and only World Cup)

He was a true West Ender and loved socialising with his many friends.

Glenys and Michael tied the knot  and got married in 1967,  a marriage that lasted over 50 years, something they were both very proud of.

They started married life in the parlour of Glenys’s parents for the first 12 months before moving into their first home in Oxford Street in 1968 along with their first born daughter  Jayne who was just 6 weeks old. After having two sons, they had their final daughter, Clare in February 1973.

They moved to a family home on Leighton Park before moving and settling into their final home for the last 38 years.

Special memories, too numerous to mention. One memory was when the whole family had a fishing day, Micky would take each of his children, one at a time to the Sandhole on the back of his Honda 50. He’d play cricket with the children and spend hours walking over the fields like the Pied Piper as all the neighbours children wanted to join in because he made it so much fun.

Michael’s grandchildren, Rich, Tom, Josh, Matt, Zach and Millie-Anne absolutely adored him as he did them too.

Holidays were always about the grandchildren, building sandcastles, swimming in the sea and making everyday an exciting adventure. However nan and grandad did get some respite when they had their own time in America.

Hobbies included fishing, darts, dominoes and football and enjoying a pint with his mates

Micky’s funeral service will take place on Wednesday 21st March at 12.15pm at St Barnabas Church, Crewe, followed by cremation.
