Muriel Robinson
“You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide”
Muriel passed away on 7th November aged 69 years. Much loved Mum and Nan she will be very sadly missed.
Mo is and always will be much loved by Craig, she is a precious ‘nan’ to Chloe and
eleven-year-old Liam and ‘nanny’ to Maisie, aged eight who is a credit to her dad,
and was pleased to know nanny will always be there looking down on them all. Mo
will be so proud of her loving son and his family and of his partner Karen and we
refer to Mo in the present tense because though she no longer has a physical
presence, she will remain in their lives whilst the generations carry her memory
forward.
Mo was an only child and gave birth to her only child Craig when she was twenty-
one and always said he spent the first year of his life in Congleton, he is unsure of
her early life but did the best he could to lovingly piece the rest together.
Mo was brought into the world by her mum Alice on 2 nd July 1953 and spent her
childhood and teens in Congleton but then around 1976, she moved in with her mum
on Crewe Road in Wheelock next door to a lady called Janet.
Janet was very much more than a neighbour; she became a dear friend and a huge
part of Mo’s life. They were a force to be reckoned with after joining a dart’s team,
winning many trophies for playing singles and doubles and they also enjoyed
Christmas’s together.
Working at Jefferies Cardboard Factory, Mo always claimed she met Cliff Richard
there, although she never divulged in what capacity, hard to think he was working
with her, perhaps he was just visiting. At some time or other, she began working at a
factory with her friend Janet then they both decided to sign up with an agency
working for a cheese production company and a bacon factory.
In 1986, Mo and Craig moved up the bank as they called it in those days, just ten
minutes away in Lightley Close, Sandbach where Mo remained for the rest of her
life.
Mo had a bubbly personality and loved to socialise especially in her earlier life, she
enjoyed a good night out and a laugh, encouraged by a drink or two with her friends
during the seventies, eighties and nineties then as she approached the millennium,
Mo became good friends with Jane who shared Mo’s passion for football and
animals – although Jane supported Man United and Mo cheered on the blues –
which must have been interesting on Derby Days with some friendly rivalry going on.
Just under two years ago, Mo was diagnosed with Bile Duct Cancer and whilst in
hospital the consultant did talk about surgery but explained to Mo it was an
extremely complicated procedure so incredibly scared of the risks involved, Mo
bravely decided to live as normal a life as possible even though it did entail taking a
vast number of pills on a daily basis.
Not wanting to worry Jane or the grandchildren, she selflessly kept her prognosis
from them and remained in her own home with time spent at Jane’s and Craig’s, but
when she was staying at his house, she frequently sent him to Aldi to get cat food,
lots of it! and she regularly fed the strays, especially the one-eyed black cat she
christened ‘one eye’!
Mo passed away peacefully on 7 th November whilst with Craig.
Liam wrote his own tribute to his nan:
This is Liam, I am Nan’s grandson – my nan was a beautiful, lovely woman. She
was great and for my birthday she always gave me money and books. My nan got
my favourite chicken and Pepsi’s for me to enjoy. I love her and when she died, my
dad kissed her on her forehead and said, “we love you.” We love you Nan forever.
Maisie wrote: This is from Maisie, Nanny’s granddaughter. She gave me sweets
and we did word searches together and I read my schoolbooks to her. I love you,
Nanny.
Poem: Look For Me In Rainbows – Author Vicky Brown, chosen by Craig and
Liam
Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.
Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.
It won't be forever, the day will come and then
My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.
Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment, and all your whole life through
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.
Just wish me to be near you, And I'll be there with you.
Muriel’s funeral will take place on Monday 28th November at Crewe Crematorium Chapel at 10.45 am.
