Trying to comprehend the loss of a beloved son, much loved dad, ‘father in law’,
brother, brother in law, uncle and friend, we celebrate his unique character. He was
certainly unique with the facets of a gem stone, some shining and bright, some
unpolished and flawed but those who knew the bright ones saw a good side to his
nature albeit he was a closed book with emotion, he was never demonstrative with
affection, nor was he over generous with proclamations of love, you had to look for
the subtle signs like the occasional “ah give us a hug”.
Nick and Jane parted but remained very much a part of each other’s lives, like that
old coat you still feel comfortable wearing, but the seams are held together by a few
threads. They weren’t together but were always together. They lived life how they
wanted, and it seemed to work for them.
Their son Elliot has more good memories than bad, he feels fortunate that both mum
and dad were his parents – whether it was in a conventional way or not and they
made him the person he is today.
Nick had difficulties but made efforts to turn his life around, particuatly with his
brother and sister-in-law in London.
The heartbreak of grief can be slowly erased by the comfort of knowing he is at
peace. He is and always will be much loved by his family.
