“A prayer, a thought are all we can give. These you will have for as long as we live.”
Pam sadly passed away on 7th February in the care of St Luke’s Hospice, aged 74 years.
Pam will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Pam was a much loved wife to Ken, mum to Jo, mum-in-law to
Rob, and grandma to Shea and Savanna.
She was born in November 1946 at Linden Grange Crewe to
Jack and Agnes O’Connor and grew up in Newdigate St with
younger siblings, Marlene, John and Maxine.
Pam loved holidays on Nana and Grandad Watson’s small-
holding in Bronington near Whitchurch and Nana Critchlow’s
Blakehall farm, New Mills, in Derbyshire. Mum always said she
loved whiling the days away talking to the cows.
Pam met Ken in a coffee shop at the early age of just 15, she
was there with her “lifelong friend” Janet bobbing away to the
music on the jukebox. Pam and Ken were married in 1966 and
settled in Wistaston, with daughter Jo being born in 1968.
Pam started off her working life as a shop assistant in a curtain
shop then worked in a stocking bar where she met June Wilson
and her husband Bob. They became a very important part of her
life and introduced Pam to All Saints church in the late 70’s
where she became part of the furniture! Pam was a loyal
member of the church for many years being on the PCC, the
Mother’s Union, assisting with Baptism Classes, singing in the
choir and helping to run the B-leaf bereavement support group.
In her younger years Pam was a member of the Red Cross which
first sparked her interest in nursing, She began volunteering at
the Crewe Memorial hospital, later gaining a nursing position,
starting her journey into her much loved nursing career that she
and her family were immensely proud of. She went on to
become one of the first nurses at the then new Leighton
hospital working there for almost 40 years.
Once her long awaited Grandson Shea was born in 2001 she
decided she wanted to spend more valuable time with the
family and retired, a little while later taking a part time job at
woodlands nursery, in a few years she was fully retired and in
2012 was given the precious gift of Savanna who became a
much loved granddaughter.
Pam always kept in touch with friends from the hospital and the
nursery and loved meeting up regularly for coffee or a meal. She
loved dressing up for these occasions and this would always
include a bit of Pam’s tasteful bling!
In her retirement she especially enjoyed spending time at home
in the garden, supervising Ken’s planting, overlooking the fields
(talking to the cows again) and spending time with Jo and Rob
and her much loved grandchildren. Together they visited lots of
different places and went for really nice meals.
The family also loved to travel and Pam was lucky enough to
visit all around Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Florida and even
Santa in Lapland.
Ken, Jo and family would like to thank you all for joining them in
celebrating the life of their beloved, caring, tenacious, fiercely
independent, Sparkly Pam.
Pam was indeed part of the furniture here and her passing
from this life into the next is a massive loss to the church
community, and to us all individually. She will be remembered
for her kindness, steadfast and gentle love and encouragement,
her intelligence and her ability to organise and motivate others.
Of course she will also be remembered for being immaculately
turned out, her sparkle and bling, and her lovely sense of
humour.
A service to celebrate Pam’s life will take place at All Saints Church on Friday 26th February followed by Cremation at Crewe Crematorium.
Donations in memory of Pam will be greatly received by St Luke’s Hospice.
