Patricia Maureen Woolstencroft fondly known as Mo although her mum used to call her Trish or when Mo was lost in a book her mum would shout Patricia to get her attention! Mo was a wonderful lady with a beautiful soul; she was hardworking, unflappable, courageous and sincere, she had an incredible strength and was always cheerful; her infectious smile was always ready and waiting to greet you. She was gracious and kind with a sincerity that gave people faith in human nature. Totally selfless, Mo would do anything for anyone, not for praise or gratitude, she was immensely caring and generous with her time and love.
Mo and her beloved husband Barrie were true soulmates, an indestructible team, with an inseparable bond from the day Mo and her friend walked into Barrie’s second home, The Cumberland Arms to escape the freezing cold one day the winter of 1962 – 63 whilst her friend was waiting for her boyfriend. Unable to resist Mo’s gorgeous smile, Barry turned to his mate and suggested they join the two young ladies. Mo’s friend eventually had to go but Barrie asked Mo where she lived and then asked if he could walk her home to Lime Tree Avenue as he lived nearby in Mellor Street. The conversation flowed and although she didn’t let Barrie near the house, as they parted company, Barrie seized the day and asked if she would like to meet up again sometime, thankfully she said yes leading to true love and happiness for fifty-nine years. Two halves of a whole, they were truly devoted to one another.
Mo was one of six siblings and thank you to Mo’s brother Keith for attending today. She was also a cherished sister-in-law to Barrie’s brother Keith, his wife Jennifer and Glyn and a good friend and neighbour to many especially Alan, his wife Bron and Alan’s children Laura and Robert.
Mo was brought into the world on 15th April 1945 by her mum Roseanna in Alcester, Worcestershire. The family eventually moved to Barbridge where Mo just a few years of her childhood before moving to Rolls Avenue Crewe where she spent her formative years. Leaving school at the age of fifteen, Mo worked at the Home and Colonial general grocery store.
Having learnt independence from an early age, Mo wouldn’t take any nonsense, everything was very much black or white with no grey areas in between, if she had something to say she would cut straight to the chase.
After Barry went down on one knee to propose, Mo started work at Rolls Royce and the two of them saved hard to pay for their wedding and buy their brand-new home on Earl’s Road. They exchanged their lasting vows on May 1st, 1965 at St Michael’s Church. Cup Final Day! And most of the lads kept nipping outside to check the score! After a reception at Coppenhall Club they spent their honeymoon in Montreux in Switzerland using a railway pass at a cost of around £18:00 each!
Several years after getting married, Mo left Rolls Royce to become a part time shop assistant at Mothercare. She then got a job in Crewe Market preparing chickens for sale before moving to Normid Co-Operative where she had part time hours for twenty-seven years until Barry encouraged her to retire earlier than originally planned at the age of fifty-two.
In the days when there were fields around the house and Barrie was on nights, Mo was sometimes afraid, so they got their Alsation pup Kim. Mo also adored children and would have loved a house full of boys.
Sadly, it wasn’t to be, but she was absolutely brilliant with youngsters especially Alan’s two children next door. They both spent their childhood popping in and out of Mo and Barry’s house.
Mo liked her holidays whether it was in a caravan in Rhyl or camping on Shell Island and Black Rock Sands. They ventured abroad to Spain but then discovered the Greek Islands and Mo loved it so much, she taught herself Greek.
Keith and Jennifer shared many wonderful holidays with Mo and Barry and laughed constantly like when Mo always managed to get lost on ferryboats when she was looking for their rooms one time they ended up in a broom cupboard!
Alan and Bron even invited them on honeymoon with them. Mo and Barrie also enjoyed several long-haul trips to places like Goa, Mexico, Cuba and had two trips to America hoping to aim for another one later this year when restrictions were eventually lifted, sadly that wasn’t to be.
And what else did Mo like doing? She liked to go out occasionally with girls from work but after Barrie retired, they went everywhere together. Their regular saying was ‘there is no me or you, it is Us.
Mo was extremely talented and had a passion for crafting handmade cards and she was a whizz on computers keeping up to date with all her friends on Facebook and there have been so many heartfelt tributes in memory of Mo
