****************************************************************************************************************************

After Paul left school, he became a painter and decorator and then a sheet metal
worker before starting at Rowlinsons, Willaston as an apprentice wood machinist
with day release to complete a city in guilds at Cauldron College of Further
Education. Paul and his colleague Chris were sent to an acquired site in Wardle to
set up another branch of the company and the new site became Paul’s base until he
took redundancy years later. After being made redundant, Paul worked for his son
Gary at Rainbow Blinds although for seven years, Gary had his work cut out making
sure his dad knew who the boss was actually!
Paul and Jill initially met whilst at school, but their first date was at a disco at the
Crosville Club. They married on 8 th February 1975 and lived with Paul’s parents, for
a while. Sarah was welcomed into the world and when she was nearly four, they
moved to their forever home at Broxton Drive. Gary arrived after a gap of ten years
and Paul was clearly pleased to have a boy.
Sarah remembers her dad was a workaholic. As the main provider, he had
traditional family values and never wanted Jill to work and refused to have latch key
kids.
She also remembers their holidays were mainly at Blackpool and Owens Camp in
Towyn, North Wales well before caravan sites had the luxury of washrooms. Paul
and Jill were happy to go there until her mum told them, “Its time you got yourselves
a passport!” So, in their forties, they started to venture abroad to places like Spain,
Egypt and Lanzarote.
Closer to home, Paul loved his garden and Gary joked about how his dad and Sarah
weren’t content with a couple of tomato plants yielding adequate tomatoes, they had
to have hundreds of plants with thousands of tomatoes and his dad regularly talked
to the plants probably because no one else listened!
Paul’s motto was make do and mend, and there are many hair-raising stories
involved with him meddling with electrical appliances!
He was a good man, strong minded, single minded, opinionated and was always
right even if he was wrong and there are more funny stories about that part of his
character!
He was renowned for arguing to prove his point and it would irritate him for days until
he found a subtle way of bringing it back up to have the same debate again having
googled it.
What a character! Paul was born and bred in Crewe a dearest brother to Susan and
the late Arnold and June. He was a brother-in-law to Sheila, much like a brother to
Robert because of them being similar in age and an uncle and friend to many. He
will be sadly missed.

May he rest in peace.
