Peter Ravenscroft

“Our treasured memories keep you near.”

Peter passed away at Leighton Hospital on 14th December, aged 61 years, Cherished brother to Bernadette & friend to many.

Born in 1st may 1961 at Lyndon Grange in Crewe, Pete was the eldest
of two children born to his parents Betty and Gordon. He attended
Ludford Street School before beginning his working life. Initially he had a
job at Richard Mullocks – his mum and dad cashed in some saving
bonds to purchase him a small motorbike to help him get to and from
work.
That would have been a big investment for Betty and Gordon, but they
did it happily confident in the knowledge that they were really helping
him get his foot on the working ladder.
Later he worked at Rolls Royce, he spent time at a farriers learning how
to make racing plates for race horses, and he finished his working life at
GIST on Quakers Coppice.
As children Berni and Pete would spend their holidays in Devon, usually
staying in caravans and chalets. Pete would live with his parents until
they both passed away, he shared the responsibility of their care with
Berni and as the time moved on Berni and Nathan would become his
carer.
In future years Pete would embark on travelling further afield. He cruised
the Mediterranean a number of times and enjoyed the freedom to
explore whilst someone took the strain of getting him there.
There wasn’t a day passed when Berni didn’t start a day with out a text
from her brother – it cheered her up and made her smile. Now those
missives have stopped and it’s a shock to acknowledge that he has
gone.
In his personal times he loved going to Car Boots with his mum, they
would buy and sell items, but it wasn’t all about the money they raised it
was the contact with the buyers and other stall holders as well.
The whole family enjoyed fishing and would take themselves off for the
day packed up with a picnic and bait – hopefully they never got mixed
up. Time spent along the canal bank was peaceful but it was also
allowed them some family time.
Pete enjoyed watching sport on the Television and his football allegiance
was with the red side of Manchester. Although he never got to Old
Trafford to see them play it wasn’t without trying.

What he really did enjoy and was able to engage in fully was superhero
movies. He delighted in the Marvel comic book characters and as they
became popular once more he was able to read about them and watch
their adventures, often joined by Nathan.
He had a wicked sense of humour. A wind up merchant some would
say, but there was nothing malicious in his mischief. He was a
determined man, a stubborn man and an independent character who
was sure of himself. A fair man, rarely judgemental and a man who
would share his ideas, opinions and beliefs freely. He could be very
verbal in sharing his ideas, but he was never offended if you didn’t share
his ideas.
There was always a story for you, delivered with a smile and an impish
wink of the eye. He was a good natured man who was a provider of fun
and laughter, always warm and caring.
Always generous with his time and his resources when he could be. He
was a funny man who enjoyed the company of others. When he was
able to he would take a drink and get involved in the banter of his
friends. He was a funny man who could make you laugh at almost
anything, but there was also a serious side to his character.
To those who loved him most of all, they have lost a part of their world, a
piece of them has now shuttered itself away and they will keep that
memory in their heart for ever.

Peter’s funeral will be held at 10am on  Monday 16th January at Crewe Crematorium.

Donations in memory of Peter will be gratefully received for the British Heart Foundation.
