Philip John Sinclair

“Always loved, never forgotten and forever missed. ”

Suddenly at  Leighton Hospital with his family at his side, Phil aged 72 years.

The beloved Husband of Brenda, Cherished Dad of Julie and her Husband Tom and the late Vikki and her Husband Nigel. Much loved Grandad and Great Grandad who will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Born at 4 Glover Street , Crewe on 4th November 1950 Phil was one of eight children born to his parents. He attended Ludford Street School before walking that well worn path gaining employment with the Railways.

With a little money in his pocket Phil and his mates would seek out their own entertainment around the town.

One afternoon, whilst walking over Chester Bridge he met Brenda, she had sat down to rest her feet which were suffering the agonies of a new pair of shoes -Purple slingbacks with a small heel – remembered and loved to this day. Phil sat down beside her and they started to chat and that was that, an instant attraction which would grow into a love which spread across 56 years – and still continues today.

Brenda was 15 and Phil was 16 – so young, but our star crossed lovers were not to be separated, their love grew and their hearts became entwined together, based on respect, honesty and loyalty to one another.

They were married in 1968 and although their lives would be beset with great joy and tragic sadness they never flinched, they faced everything life threw at them together – a solid and steadfast union.

They originally moved in with Brenda’s Mum and Dad. Not the ideal situation for newlyweds, but one that would enable them to be together and save up for a place of their own. Sharing their space was eased by the fact that Phil was always very attached to Brenda’s Mum, he loved her dearly and they got on incredibly well.

Eventually Phil and Brenda moved into the house next door to Brenda’s Mum and Dad in Chetwode Street.

They were blessed with two daughters Vikki and Julie. Life was joyous and there was always laughter and fun in their home. Phil would have got his girls anything they wanted, if he could have climbed to the moon he would have and thrown some stars in for good measure.

Family holidays were always anticipated with great excitement they were always big family events, often more than one van was needed to fit everyone in. They were almost always taken along the North Wales coast in Rhyl or Towyn, although when Phil bought a touring van they were able to travel a bit further afield for a time.

Christmas was always a special time, Phil loved a party and being surrounded by friends and family.  He was always the centre of attention, because he made any get together that bit more special. He had one liners which he could throw out given the opportunity, he had a wicked sense of humour which will always be remembered.

With Vikki’s marriage to Nigel and Julie’s to Tom they would welcome grandchildren into the family; Christina, Becci, Amanda, Tasha, Sam and Lucy, everyone of them was greatly loved and Brenda and Phil took to their new roles as grandparents with ease. As time moved on seven great grandchildren have swelled the family further and have ensured that the legacy created by Phil and Brenda will continue down the generations.

Phil worked for the railway for 32 years, rising to the role of Freight Services Supervisor. He understood the importance of a working life and the benefits it could bring to a family, but nothing was guaranteed to last forever so after leaving The Railway, he gained a position with the Lady Verdin Trust. A career he loved very much, and remained there for 21 years before finally retiring.

Since being very young he had always loved dogs, they were virtually an ever constant in his family. Julie told me there was always a dog when she was growing up.

Tilly and Sam were very much loved members of the family, not forgetting  Basil who was his best friend and confidante.
