****************************************************************************************************************************
Born in Leeds on 16th November 1955, Ann was the only child born to her parents William and
Doreen.
Having finished school she began her working life in the offices at Rimmer’s Music her
responsibilities were many fold but included looking after the payroll, a hard working member of
staff, Ann worked her way up to become the office manager.
She had a variety of jobs over the years as she was always aware of the benefits of a working life,
sometimes she would hold down multiple jobs at the same time to ensure that her family had all it
needed. Her skills as a seamstress ensured that the children always had something new to wear
when needed – even if she didn’t always make outfits the girls would choose for themselves.
Her last few years of work were in the eye care centre at Leighton, and I am aware that there are
some past colleagues of Ann’s here today and I thank you for taking time out of your busy working
schedule to be here for Ann.
Ann and Stuart married and were proud parents to Beckie, Paul and Emma. Although over time they
would part, they remained civil to one another. They had built a legacy which remains today and
continues to grow. She was always protective of them all, woe betide anyone who upset them or
tried to mess with them.
Her grandchildren were the high spot of her life – she loved each and everyone of them
unconditionally, if she could have got them the moon she would have and would probably have
thrown in some stars for good measure. Days out with the family were embraced as were family
holidays, which – when funds allowed, would include everyone.
Ann was a great giver of fun and laughter – life was too short to be miserable! Always a sociable
woman she threw herself into her friends and family. She delighted in nights out, she loved live
musical theatre and watching live bands.
She was a strong-willed woman and had her opinions on most things and was never afraid to voice
her ideas on any subject “saying it as she saw it” but with no filter or care for political correctness!
Her character was perfect when she worked behind the bar – if you misbehaved, she would have no
second thoughts about asking you quite forcibly to leave.
When Ann was in the mood for a heated “discussion” nothing would hold her back, Emma told me it
was as if she enjoyed an occasional argument – which of course she usually won!
On the other hand, she was a great listener and would give her knowledge and advice freely to
anyone who asked – if you chose not to take her advice that was fine because Ann was never
judgemental.
Ann was a colourful character and life wasn’t always kind to her in many ways, but she never once
made a fuss about the challenges life threw at her, she just got on with what needed to be done and
accepted her life as it was. Never did she dwell on what could have been, she simply appreciated all
she had.
A woman of simple tastes and gentle ways, she cared for so many people and always made time for
others. When you were in her company you always felt special and if she could look around this
chapel today she would be humbled to think so many people had come to pay their last respects to
her. That is a mark of the standing she had amongst her community.
Her sense of humour will be remembered by all who knew Ann. She had the ability to always see the
bright side of any situation and was able to laugh about things, including herself, in any predicament.
What can we say about Ann and her life that hasn’t already been said? All her life she was the rock
of her family, she was the one they all came to when they needed help, the safe haven when they
were troubled. She knew it was important to see through the tough times and to recover from them
stronger than ever.
Her strength at dealing with a variety of health conditions was an inspiration to everyone, her
courage inspired those around her and endeared her to so many.
May she rest in peace.
