********************************************************************************************************************

Phyllis had enjoyed a long life with good health for nearly all of it. A stroke had set her back 9 years ago, but she pretty well recovered from that. The Elms in Crewe has been her home since the stroke. The staff there have served her well and she has been content there.  She and husband John had enjoyed 57 years of very happy marriage after marrying in 1948.

So grateful thanks are due to the staff of The Elms, and to the staff of Ward 13 at Leighton who cared for her in her final few days.  Thank You also to neighbours in Amy Street while she was still living there – especially Linda and Tony and their children.  And to Lindsay, a nephew, and his wife Sharon.

Phyllis was a true daughter of Crewe who spent all her life in Crewe, most of those years living in 3 Amy Street. She had met John in Crewe Works where they both were working in the 1940’s. Later in the 1970’s she worked as a waitress in The Crewe Arms.

John and Phyllis made a lovely couple together. I guess they would have made great parents – but that was not to be, and that did not stand in the way of a very happy marriage.

They did many things together. Fishing trips to Swanley canal, for example. She even got to share his interest in football. They had love, contentment and gratitude in their hearts – all very precious.

However, John’s loving care for Phyllis came to an abrupt end when John died in 2005. She felt the loss very keenly. Good neighbours and relatives came in to fill the gap as best they could. The Elms later gave her a sense of security and, despite that sadness of the loss of John, she used the time to remember all the joy John had brought to her life, and to reminisce about happy events when they had been together.

In God’s eternal love Phyllis and John now rest together, reunited in their love for each other.

In life we can picture Phyllis and John at one of their favourite spots like Blackpool, or Llandudno, hopefully enjoying the sunshine in the sea air.  But now we leave this couple in peace where those who love them will see them again.

May she rest in peace.

I send my deepest condolences to Phyllis’ family at this sad time. I worked with Phyllis at the Crewe Arms Hotel during the 1970s. She was a lovely lady, who had a wonderful sense of humour and was a pleasure to work with. Together with her husband John we had many hours of laughter. I will always remember her wonderful smile. God bless.
