Ray was very much a cherished dad to Karen, a much-loved grandad to Dean and
Candice, he thought a lot about Sadie and Hayden and was a lovely great granddad
to Myla, Connor and Rhys. He was a dear brother to the late Derek, a brother-in-law
to Dave, Lynn and Mo and a good friend and neighbour to many over the years.
Ray was caring, kind and incredibly cheeky, a joker who always made you laugh. He
was extremely laid back although he had his stubborn streak at times. He worked at
Rolls Royce / Bentley for much of his working life, turning his hand to many roles in
the factory but his boss was Pam! The two of them were inseparable, living at 2,
Waldron Gardens, enjoying years of happiness. They made a good team, sharing
housework, cooking and they always went shopping together, in fact in later years,
especially after Ray retired, Pam wouldn’t go to town without him.
Born and bred in Crewe, Ray was one of two children welcomed into the world by
their parents Sadie and Donald Bartlett. Ray and Derek were completely different
characters – Ray was the mischievous one. He left Ludford Street school as a young
lad school and followed many others of his age into Rolls Royce. Ray would go to
Royce’s club most weekends for a drink and then attempt to ride his bike home
drunk and end up in a hedge!
He first met Pam, at Royce’s Club. When asked if it was love at first sight, Ray
smiled and said, “maybe!”
Ray and Pam were delighted when their first grandchild Dean was born in 1987
followed by Candice in 1990, and they both remember the fun filled holidays they
had with Gran and Grandad in Blackpool. Ray and Pam also went on many coach
trips to different destinations and enjoyed many holidays at the caravan in
Llandudno.
Ray loved to watch horse racing and couldn’t resist his little flutter on the on the
Grand National every year. He also liked to try his luck on slot machines often
bragging about how much he had won! In his younger days, Ray was a keen bowler,
he won an array of trophies and often spent hours in the garden teaching Dean and
Candice how to play.
He loved to wind Pam up and when she wasn’t looking, to make all the kids giggle,
he made funny faces at her. He would also wind all the kids up by grabbing their leg
or make them jump when they were walking past by pretending something was biting
them.
He was very much loved and will be much missed but now reunited with the love of
his life Pam, who he cried for every day since she passed earlier this year.
