Ruth Mary Ellames

“I carry your heart with me.”

Ruth passed peacefully away at Bentley Manor Care Home on Tuesday 20th August, aged 74 years.

A loving mum to Kerrie and Claire and a cherished grandmother to Chris, Frankie, Lilly-Mai, Ryan, Alfie-Michael and Gracie- Leigh.

Ruth was born in Stoke-on-Trent on Tuesday 21st November 1944 but the family moved to Crewe when she was just three months old. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. She went on to work at Leighton Hospital and was also a seamstress. Ruth married Michael in 1984.

Ruth lived all her life in Underwood Lane, where her and Michael made their home together. Kerrie was born on the 26th February 1984 and Claire came along a year later on the 22nd February 1985. The family always laughed about this saying that Ruth coughed and sneezed and had another child! As a family they spent many happy holiday all over Wales, especially Rhyl and Prestatyn.

Ruth eventually had to finish work to care for Michael until he passed away in 1998 and then raised the girls herself. She became a nan to Chris, the first of her grandchildren, who she loved and spoiled.

She moved several times due to poor health in her later years, eventually settling in Bentley Manor. She enjoyed watching all the soaps on television and knitting. She enjoyed a good movie, Dirty Dancing and Billy Elliott being favourites and she loved all kinds of music.

The girls described their mum as being a caring, kind, easy going, brave, fun loving, generous and thoughtful person and the family home was always full of love and care when they were growing up, if the girls fell over mum would make it better with her magic spit!! Any visitors were made to feel very welcome who knocked on the door.

Kerrie and Claire would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Bentley Manor Care Home for looking after mum since she moved into there.

Ruth’s funeral will take place on Friday 30th August in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 9.20am.
