“Memories are something no one can steal”

Sheila passed peacefully away at Leighton Hospital on 17th September, aged 78 years. The beloved wife of the late Eric, much loved mum of Wendy and Adrian. Also a cherished nanna, mother-in-law and sister, who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all her family.

Sheila was born in Crewe, not long after the beginning of the second world war. One of four children. At school the friends she made remained her friends thoughout her life. Whilst Sheila was still at school she became the cook for the rest of her family, as her mother was not well.  She met Eric, the love of her life, and they married in 1967.  They were blessed with two children, Wendy and Adrian. She adored family life and they spent many happy days out and holidays in Blackpool. She loved her grandchildren Daniel and Katie and loved to take them out.  Sheila enjoyed her role as lollipop lady, a job she did for over thirty years at Brierley Street School. Her trademark was her smile and warmth.

In 2002 she lost Eric to cancer and struggled to come to terms with his death for a time. She later regained her optimistic approach to life and  found her smile again. Earlier this year Sheila was diagnosed, out of the blue, with lung cancer. She kept a brave front even though it must have been very difficult. After a fall at home and a hip operation in Leighton, Sheila was discharged and was offered care and support at home. She was later re-admitted to hospital where she passed peacefully away.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday 27th September in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 10.40am, followed by cremation. Donations are welcome to Christie Hospital.
