Stan was born in Salford in 1933 and moved to Smith Grove in Crewe in the late 1930s when his father got a job at Rolls Royce. He attended West Street junior school and then Ludford Street Secondary School and left school aged 15 and started working for Rolls Royce. At the age of 21 Stan was conscripted for National Service and he spent two years with the REME based in Germany.
Stan and Muriel married in 1954. It was a long and happy marriage, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014 before Muriel sadly passed away in 2015. Stan was demobbed in 1956 and returned to work at Rolls Royce and Stan and Muriel purchased their first house together in Stamford Avenue, Crewe. Michael was born in 1955 and Helen in 1958.
Stan started playing golf in the 1970s and over the years played golf on many courses. He joined the Crewe and Nantwich Rambling Club in the 1980s and proved to be an excellent walker and a very capable leader of walks.
Helen and Jim married in 1978. Michael and Judith married in 1980. Stan’s first grandchild, Adam was born in 1986, followed by Mark in 1989 and Emma in 1990. Stan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and even took the bold step of taking three young adults on holiday to Majorca in 2011.
In 1991 Stan took redundancy from Rolls Royce and worked at Stapeley Water Gardens before returning to Rolls Royce to work in the Estimating Department once more until he was 65.
In 1991 Stan enjoyed a cycling holiday in Southern Ireland where he had an unforgettable evening entertaining the other hotel guests with his singing.
Stan belonged to various U3A groups and helped organise the dance group and helped run a bowling group. He was still attending the U3A Fitness Group until the covid lockdown brought everything to a halt. He played bowls and over the years joined a number of bowling clubs where he was a member of various teams and travelled quite some distance to play in matches. In later life Stan took to playing bridge and this was something he thoroughly enjoyed right up until lockdown again interfered. He played with several bridge clubs.
Stan was a very sociable and active person. He made many, many friends and will be sadly missed by so many people.
May he rest in peace
